In the sense that it's towel grip on wood, yeah. Classic LD grips had a lot of wood exposed though, while these days he uses basically the same grip as Taufik did (although afaik Taufik used an insanely thin grip, G6 handles and only towel on there).
Insanely thin? Fernaldi has an overgrip on G6 bare wood, and that was like crack to my hand. Made my G5's look like Pringle tubes (and made me furious that we never see G6 over here). G6 ain't thin; G3,4,5 is thick!
G6 is thin. I'm exasperated whenever I have to grip a G5....admittedly I have fairly big hands, but I also like my grip (comparatively) thin. G4 is perfect for me, just a layer of electric tape, athletic tape, then towel.

Yeahh.. almost the same. But TH's grip is kinda thick on the bottom. Maybe same sort of like this.... if I'm not mistaken....
