I doubt it if he's doing 20 minute miles.

I heard that once, he was playing a pro, who shall not be named. The pro had the audacity to play an unreturnable shot. Cheung willed it back over the net woth his mind powers.

Back on topic. No update on mile time. Damn shin splints.

A month/6weeks ago I did a mile in ~10 minutes, can't remember now. First time on a treadmill. My friend arrived at that time so stopped the 'cardio'. Inverted commas, because it wasn't strenuous at all.

I would like to do more cardio, but running in British weather... no thanks. Local treadmills are crap for HIIT, maybe all treadmills are? The time:benefit ratio is not good enough for me to put in the time for standard cardio in the gym.

Actually, I can't run a mile. I have very bad flat feet. I can sprint but anything over 400m is a pain in the proverbial a******e. If only I had the feet of one of the Brownlee brothers..

Mine is around 6mins, but I'm also curious about what a pro would do. Back in high school, I remember a junior state player (14-15 year old) who went under 5mins for 1500m because he joined school sports. Of course it didn't get him the medal as there were people who actually trained just to run, but he came close to. However years have passed and I'm not sure of his time now. I also do know a girl state player from another school who actually represented her school in the 1500m as well as badminton. She was so darn fit! Unfortunately she strained herself trying to do 2 sports over the years and is injury prone now.

Imho, serious running starts at 3min/km (for such short distances). That would make a sub 5min mile.
    Everything else is jogging...;-)

Yeah, to have any chance of a medal you need to go at least 430 (and sub 4 if you're senior). The guy badminton player was seconds from it, but just not that specialized. I don't remember the girl's times however, she was from a different school but people was saying she represented in 2 sports.

But what I want to know is Lin Dan/Chong Wei's mile time. I would put it at 415?

    4:15?
    Never ever.
Maybe if they focused on running. I would put them at sub 5, def not below 4:30!

Well, I feel sub 5 is a bit slow for seniors, and almost every runner has done it (I think one of the first things runners aim for is a sub 5 mile). I'd think that an world class athlete with an intensive badminton regime would do better so I guess I'm going to be optimistic on this one :D.

Ok, been a while but I just asked a girl state player on her mile time, it's under 5min30. So I think my optimism is not unfounded.

I'm a recreational runner and just calculated my mile time based on my personal best 5k so my average pace per mile is 5:37. On my longest run 12k i got an average pace of 6:35 per mile.

All my proper runs are about 5-10k depending on weather conditions and how I feel for that day.

The biggest benefit to badminton from running that I can see is my stamina has improved dramatically since I started running regularly. Mind you I am also a smoker and not really a healthy eater so I'm sure the professional athletes would probably be able to run 4 minute miles consistently since this is still achievable for serious runners. top finishers in 5k runs would be below 20 min, these are competitive runners.
