Hello All, Firstly, please let me know if this thread already have discussed before, but I can't found the same thread in 1st - 5th page. Hopefully it not a double posting thread.. Secondly, I'm from Penang Malaysia, and I just bought a tube of RCL Titanium (76) shuttlecock..the price increased again..just talking in 2015 price starting from January, already got 3 times increased. First around RM57, & then in Mar around RM61..and the latest one is yesterday..RM65...the shop owner told me that this was affected for all shuttlecock model... even it just less than RM5 increment..for me 3 times increment in 4 month is unacceptable..:crying:
First increment - Petrol Second increment - Weakening Ringgit Third Increment - GST implementation. Then?
Not every shuttlecock are manufactured locally. Some shuttlecocks in Malaysia are imported from their region distributors. Every shuttlecock imported has different cost and weakening Ringgit forced the retailer to import it at higher unit cost. This will lead to increment in shuttlecock prices to end users.
Well, you are looking from a different position on the increment of the price. If they raise 3 times, you got them for a while for a lower price compared to the actual price. IMO there is nothing wrong. You could have it worse. They had raise the price the first time by 4 RM. I got this problem here in Germany, too. Always in the April of every year the price of the shuttlecock raise a bit. That's around 50 cent (2 RM) to 1€ (4 RM) depending which brand an which model. I think this happen in the whole world. Everything is getting slightly more expensive. IMO it's better to raise the price slightly than dropping the quality. When you buy food, meat etc. you will notice a raise of the prices. Not that high but a tendency that the prices never drop.
fan123, I think RCL HQ somewhere in KL..but not sure it locallize made or not..the other brands I think not..
ucantseeme, Yeahh..seem like it will still keep increasing in future..in the next 2 or 3 years, believe me..the price might be at least RM90 - RM100 per-tube..
Maybe like every other company, everywhere in the world, they outsourced manufacturing to China in order to save labour costs... But their plan backfired due to fall in RM
ucantseeme, I don't know how is your situation right now. For us, an increment in RM4 per tube is too much. Most of us living in desperate now. Furthermore a triple increments within a year can kill us. In your country, 1EUR maybe small, for us RM4 is too much. RSL shuttlecock increased rapidly. As example, RSL Gold increased from RM51 to RM59 or even higher. How we are supposed to play badminton now?
fiq_axis, yes..this is something to worry about..because I think this is not a full stop..it will still continue with this trend after this, predictly increase by every quater year...
Depending how you get money and how much. As a student it is always difficult in every country in the world when prices raise and you will always struggle with money, Badminton is not a cheap kind of sports when you use feathers and have to rent courts. For a student you have a decent arsenal of high end rackets, so you can't be so tight on budget. The inflation rate in Malasia is getting higher, so a raise of the prices must be everywhere present. I can't imagine that only the price for shuttles is going higher.
yes, you are right. The economy in Malaysia keep worsen everyday and I don't see the shuttlecock price price will be reduced. Speaking of price, only Yonex Shoes and Rackets price has been slashed due to Yonex don't sponsors Malaysia team anymore.
Does badminton companies have like a duck/goose farm where they breed them solely to pluck their feathers? Are any birds harmed during the process of making feather shuttles? Why are other bird's feathers not used? Like chicken feathers? Pigeon? Swan?
I saw the price went up a lot after US started quantitative easing. This year looks like prices of shuttles went up over 10%. Worldwide problem.
Has there been any culling of geese required due to the occasional bird flu outbreak at the farms? If so, this may significantly affect the supply...
i am about to start this discussion and good to see it now any alternative brand or shop around penang to hunt for more reasonable pricing in town.. any sharing?
