OT: I personally think Chew Mei Fun is a decent candidate. She quit when MCA was under the leadership of the previous president (who failed miserable at the election 2013) and just rejoined after the party had an internal reshuffling.

OT: Ow Yao Han has become a wasted talent, same like Mak Hee Chun. Pity these World Junior Champions really.

And where is Yew Hong Kheng? Nelson Heg/Teo Ee Yi nowadays?

It's interesting that, although they don't yet have a ranking as a pair, Tan Boon Heong & Ow Yao Han are in the main draw while many pairs who do have a ranking are forced to play in the Qualification Round!

Notional ranking from Tan's existing points score.

If it were the All England, probably they could only make the qualifying rather like Ma Jin/Tang YuanTing. (Or perhaps just reserve list).

You know, KKK and TBH have gone seperate ways now.

Would it be better to discuss them in seperate threads?

Or are they so much a partnership that we should keep this thread alive - just for them....??

Cheung, I think separate threads for the new pairings. No point going on and on about the past when both have moved on to new partnerships now.

[h=2]Yao Han strengthens grip on Thomas Cup squad[/h]BY RAJES PAUL

PASIR GUDANG: If his growth as a player is anything to go by, two-time world junior champion Ow Yao Han is set to win the last slot in the men’s doubles squad for the Thomas Cup Finals.

Although the 19-year-old Yao Han and his new partner Tan Boon Heong lost in the quarter-finals of the Malaysian Open Grand Prix Gold at the Pasir Gudang Municipal Stadium on Friday, he showed good attitude throughout the competition.

After shaky starts in the early rounds, Yao Han stepped up a gear with Boon Heong and they almost caused a big upset before going down fighting 23-25, 21-6, 19-21 to third seeds Gideon Markus Fernaldi-Markis Kido of Indonesia in 52 minutes.

Not many may know this but Yao Han had been unwell from day one. Credit to him, though, for trying to outdo himself – just to prove a point.

“I learnt from every match. I was a nervous wreck in the beginning because I knew the spotlight was on Boon Heong and I. I’m glad that my partner and my coach (Pang Cheh Chang) were encouraging,” said Yao Han, who was coughing throughout the competition.

“I played much better in the quarter-finals. It is positive ... but I still have a long way to go. I have to show more improvement in two other tournaments.”

The quality of competition will be greater when Yao Han-Boon Heong head to New Delhi for the Indian Open Superseries starting on Wednesday, followed by the Singapore Open Superseries.

A good showing in those two tournaments will further justify his selection into the Thomas Cup Finals squad.

The Finals will be held in New Delhi from May 18-25 and, so far, five doubles players are assured of their places – Hoon Thien How-Tan Wee Kiong, Lim Khim Wah-Goh V Shem and Boon Heong.

The closing date for Malaysia to submit the names of the team members is May 4.

During the recent selection trial, Yao Han and Chan Peng Soon played as a pair and won all their matches but, with only one slot up for grabs, Yao Han seems to be the favourite.

    Courteasy of The Star :

Kien Keat to reunite with Boon Heong for world meet
    by rajes paul

The Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM) has submitted Koo Kien Keat-Tan Boon Heong's name for the World Championship in August.

KUALA LUMPUR: Former national shuttler Koo Kien Keat has been given a lifeline to play for Malaysia in the World Championships.

The 29-year-old Kien Keat will reunite with Tan Boon Heong in Copenhagen from Aug 25-31 after the Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM) confirmed their entries.

Kien Keat-Boon Heong had qualified on merit for the World Championships by virtue of being the world No. 24 pair. Two other Malaysian qualifiers ranked ahead of them are Hoon Thien How-Tan Wee Kiong (7th) and Goh V Shem-Lim Khim Wah (19th).

A country can have a maximum of three pairs if they are ranked within the top 24 bracket.

Initially, Kien Keat’s participation was unclear because he had quit the national team in March but BAM’s secretary Ng Chin Chai confirmed on Monday that they had accepted Kien Keat-Boon Heong’s entry.

Chin Chai said that it would benefit Malaysia to have three pairs in the fray.

“Boon Heong is still with BAM and it will be a waste if we do not allow him to play with Koo in Copengahen. We have confirmed their entries with the world body,” said Chin Chai.

“With Koo and Boon Heong in the squad, we can have quality sparing sessions among the men’s doubles qualifiers. It will also benefit Khim Wah-V Shem and Thien How-Wee Kiong.”

Kien Keat, who has been coaching and playing for Thailand-based Granular badminton club since leaving BAM, is happy to be given another chance and has promised to deliver.

“I have spoken to Boon Heong about this and we are ready for the world championships. This will be our last chance to come good. We have two more months to work at it. My most memorable outing in the world meet is a runners-up finish in Paris (2010) and hopefully, we can give a strong performance again,” added Kien Keat.

I believe this time Koo&Tan will win the WC2014, just like any couple time off from each others help to realize how much they miss each others...
