Morning all, Was thinking of going to watch the All England this year for the first time since 2008. I normally go to watch the Friday evening session - where ticket prices are normally quite reasonable (£12-15), but the organisers now want £33.30 (£30.00 ticket price + £3.30 fees) per ticket. It's really put me off going now as £33.00 to watch 4-5 hours of badminton is very expensive. I know I will likely see the best players in the world, but the players on show are no better than before the event became a Super Series/Premier Super Series. When did the tickets go up in price so much ?, I suspect it's since it became a Premier Super Series event.
£33.30 is equal to RM182.949 and that is expensive. Furthermore you have to keep your fingers crossed that there are no walkovers.
I won't be going now, wouldn't be surprised to see lots and lots of empty seats at the tournament if the organisers want to charge as much as they do. A few years ago when I used to go regularly, the Friday evening session was very reasonable (£10-15 only) - but it had to be as the amount of badminton a spectator could view was very limited from around 5.30pm until end of play which is at around 11pm. I can't say many of my badminton friends will go at these prices also.
That does sound like a lot. But it is to see the best in the world. ____________ £33 equals $61 Canadian. My boys are asking to see a professional sports game when we go to Boston next week. For a fair seat at a Boston Celtics basketball game, it would cost $76 CDN each. For a Boston Bruins hockey game, it would cost over $150 for each balcony seat! So everything is relative. _______ If I was going to the All England, I'd want to go on the early days. Then one could see all sorts of players - veterans and up-and-comers - before their tournament was done. And probably get a lot closer, too. Who knows, even get an autograph ... (... from Gill Clarke or Mark Appleton )
a typical perimer football match is around UKP50. Mum and Dad plus 2 kids will be UKP200, not much change with US$350. I'll say 20 QF matches at AE is a bargain.
£33 seems quite a lot?? That's £6 an hour (roughly) of world class entertainment. Come to think of it play badminton often costs me around £6 an hour or so. Tennis would be muuuuuuuuuuuuuch more expensive, and not as good I'd understand not going because it's situated in Birmingham, but not for the price set. The petrol/ train from wales will probably be more expensive.
In comparison to many other high profile events, I'd have to agree - £33 is pretty reasonable. What makes it unreasonable in my eyes is the fact that just a few years ago it was only £10-15 for the same session, I know the price of everything has risen with inflation - but not double/triple the value. It seems to me that the organisers are trying to pass on the cost of the increased prize money they now have to shell out due to becoming a Premier Super Series event on to the spectators. It will be interesting to see if its a full house at the AE this year, I'm not to sure the UK public are that keen on paying premium prices to watch badminton. Maybe it's just me being a cheapskate haha.
I suppose I will have to agree with vatovey on this. Last year, they charged GBP 20 for the Friday quarterfinal session. So realistically, a more than 50% jump in ticket prices is not very reasonable unless they could do the carnival atmosphere of Indonesia's Premier Super Series.
Quite nicely put. I think HK prices would roughly be similar for the top tier seats. Can't remember the prices off hand though. Mind you, I get annoyed when a player walks off because of a temper tantrum (Taufik), or don't even play (China).
Will fly to Birmingham tomorrow and stay all the weekend. Price for the ticket Friday to Sunday (Premier seat) was GBP76, which is ok for me
Looks very much like Asian Championships, only one Danish, one english MD and Li Michelle left... Anyway, I agree - all is set for superb matches, looking very much forward for tonight.
Lots of empty seats for the final. With minimum/no TV broadcast fee, no public sponsor funding, this is tough business to be in....Dang! because you didn't go, there is 1 ticket less to sell and 1 less hairy butt to warm the seat
