If you watch the match v Chen Hong, he fires that backhand smash at allegedly 260km/h.. He was a beast in his prime.

Agreed a total beast of a shot. And so nonchalant.
Someone should have kept that shuttle and auctioned it off.

If that was today with the poor quality of feathers it would have imploded on contact.

Great thread! Great tribute to Taufik Hidayat!

Ever since I started playing badminton competitively and generally picking up the game of badminton.
Taufik Hidayat has been one of favourite badminton players of all time! I hope future players will know about his achievements and his famous backhand smash, which inspired me to try and learn how to play a backhand clear or backhand smash. :)

It looks like the ArcSaber 10. The sides of head looks similar to it, but I might be wrong. ;)

Yeah, they were all hitting in the ~300 range at Madrid in 2006 because of the conditions. Even the match between TH and CH had a lot of really fast smashes -I believe one of Chen Hong's also clocked around 300, and when some time later he hit one around 280, the commentator (Burgess) remarked "only 286? obviously, he's weakening!" LOL.

I believe it was the AT700.

Lin Dan mentioned in his book that right after TH won the 2004 OG, he asked his coach for changing his racket to AT700, as he believed his old racket didn't bring him luck, and the racket used by TH must be the best in the world!

Lin Dan also said that was the only time he actively seeking to change racket!
