It took me lot of tournaments before I won 1. Seen many finals before I won. Def great feeling to win!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I'm older - mid thirties - so my competition days are over. People say I'm good but I never realise/ care how good. A couple of weeks ago I beat #4 national player... twice . Felt like any other wins . A bit sorer the next day though :crying:.
I would say i'm at beginner/intermediate level! I usually play againt players that are better than me so I can learn from my mistakes and watch how they play and focus on make the techniques my own! I've always been a person who puts myself down...to make myself stronger in badminton but many people say I'm a quick learner and know how to use the court effectively after making mistakes! Makes me feel great!
How do you really answer that question? I think I'm 'ok', but some may say I'm awful, others could say I'm great. I think it's not a question to be asked! LOL. Just let your skills do the talking and enjoy the sport!
Never entered any tournaments, but i've won some highschool competitions. Hoping to get into some tournies soon but most of them are an hours drive away from where I live so I'm not exactly motivated quite yet Scared of a "drive-2 matches and eliminated-drive".
I'm surprised that almost every second member here never participated in any kind of tournaments? C'mon guys. Eventhough you're playing badminton just for fun, don't you wanna play any (fun) tournaments? You're freaks. If not, why are you here?! Are all the participating players in all the tournaments in your country that unbelievable skillful that it wouldn't make sense to participate? Here in Switzerland, there are a lot of tournaments. Most of them require a playing license. But since we have catgories (A, B, C and D), your skill level shouldn't matter at all as long you're not a very bloody beginner. But even for the latter ones, there are some tournaments for badminton lovers without license. What about your country?
We have a similar system in the netherlands. Here we have numbers for different categories, where 9 is the lowest category and 1 is the highest. Most tournaments have different categories, and it depends on your ranking in which category you can sign up. You do need to be a member of the national badminton association or another association that is part of the BWF in order to participate. There are also some tournaments organised by clubs outside the national association. Those tournament are usually of a lower level. You don't have to be a member of the national association to participate. Though a lot of those tournaments have a maximum level. Very good players are not allowed to participate.
The question is so meaningless! If I play a fun tournament with my friends every weekend (or only B, C and D tournaments according to [MENTION=79732]Accordaz[/MENTION] ranking scheme), I'll surely win dozens of tournaments every year. If I play international tournaments, my counter will be 0 at the end of the season...
Well, in our country, you're allowed to participate in one category only. But if you want to, you can play all disciplines. Mostly doubles and mixed will be put together for the saturday and singles for sunday. In some case it's vice versa. I want to note that I want to distance myself from the topic's question. I've just posted because I'm really surprised about the 49% for "I don't play tournaments." I mean even fun tournaments and lower category tournaments will count as a tournament. Maybe this tournaments discussion should be discussed in a new topic. (Oh gosh, I sucked so much yesterday when I participated in singles... Well, it won't be my last one for sure

I've played in a lot of tournaments, and won very few of them. I've always tried to play in the category above my level to keep meeting stronger players, and the few wins were really unexpected
