Is there any way to install language packs on Windows 2000 without using the CD?

    Thank you!

Would be helpful if you could provide

    1. Which language(s)?
    2. What purpose - display in Internet browser?,display foreign program menus and dialog in native language?, editing foreign text etc..

    1. Chinese Traditional, Simplified, Korean, Japanese...etc.

    2. Ya, I want to able to read them on my Internet browser.

My problem is that I don't have the CD. When I go to Yahoo! Taiwan, the language installation thing pops up and asks me to insert Windows 2000 CD.....:crying:

    Thank you!

    1. You need that CD; It's Microsoft ;)
    2. Try to find the MLP (the Multi-Lingual Package).
    3. If you can use XP, they are all built-in now.

I lent my machine with Win2000 to someone and they managed to screw it up for me, so I can't get a look. Of course if he had the original CD with him, he would not need to ask ;)

It's been a while but from what I recall, you can usually character codes off the internet from within internet explorer, but can't remember which version. The alternative is copy the relevant files over from someone else who has a Win 2000 machine. I recall I had to do it from a Win XP pro to Win 2000 machine.

Some machines have the setup files on the computer already and need no CD. I think they were in a folder called C:\i386 or maybe C:\WINNT\i386

If all you need to do is view CJK code in a browser, you can use one of the free ones from www.njstar.com. You can drag it into your startup folder if you use it regularly.

This is all I can do for you now. Enough PC diagnosing today...while I wallow in Mac OS bliss
