For less than US$1, you might get to watch Lin Dan live(without having to be line judges), if he is really playing.

Does anyone have news on whether there will be a farewell event held by the organizer for Taufik Hidayat in the tournament?

Hmm, planning to arrive on Thursday the 13th. Should I take the whole week pass or just the last 3 days pass and miss Thursday's action?

    Sigh, decisions, decisions.

may BCer please elaborate how significant the actual viewing experience differences in the stadium between the VIP and Class-1 ? Is Class-1 still providing a good viewing... or just an ineffective distant viewing requiring the assists of Russian or Chinese binocular? :p

btw, this online ticketing BliBli gives some impression about the seating location as well: http://blibli.com/promo/tiket-djarum-indonesia-open-2013//

If not mistaken, the VIP is divided into (A) UPPER Class and (B) GROUND Class. So, what's the most favorable viewing position? And, is Class-1 really worth to get?

based on last year experiences, customer can't choose the seat position in VIP classes.

I note there they raise the ticket price for this year ... :(

Basically seats in both class 1 and 2 are higher, VIP class is the only one with seats below, level with the courts (well, with ascending seats, of course). But I guess you can still see fine in class 1..?

And yeah, there are no seat number whatsoever. (come on guys, it's Indonesia) So just come earlier if you want to get good seats! :)

Just got my tickets yesterday and there's no seat number. I haven't got the physical tickets themselves, because I'm supposed to get them on the day at the venue, so I don't know, maybe things have changed? Doubt it, though. Anyway, definitely no seat number on the e-tickets. (There was none when I went there a few years ago either)

I also bought the e-tickets for the past couple of years. :)

We are required to check our e-tickets at the ticket booth, and then they shall provide you with the numbered ticket (for VIP class).

A brief history of the Indonesia Open....

    http://www.djarumbadminton.com/djarum-indonesia-open/about/history/

    A basic translation from Gargoyle....

For the second time, Indonesia will host the grand event of badminton in the country. Djarum Indonesia Open Premier Super Series 2012 will be held on 12 to 17 June. Before we speculate who will reach tens of thousands of dollars in prizes, it could not hurt us glance for a moment about the history of this championship.

Indonesia Open was initiated by the Indonesian Badminton Association (PBSI), and was first held in 1982. The championship continues rolling until finally in 2007 into the ranks of the Indonesia Open super series, which was held in 12 countries only.

Perhaps you are new to following the course of the Indonesia Open, knowing the championship was held in Jakarta only. But did you know that this championship ever held in eight cities, namely Samarinda (1990), London (sic) (should be Bandung) (1991), Semarang (1992), Yogyakarta (1994), Denpasar (1999), Surabaya (2002) and Batam (2003).

Winning the title is the most current Ardy B Wiranata (1990, 1991, 1992, 1994, 1995 and 1997) and Taufik Hidayat, who both collected six titles. Taufik successful champion in 1999, 2000, 2002, 2003, 2004, and 2006 still have the opportunity to be winning the title after he was ever going to compete in this year. Taufik reached the final in 2010, but unfortunately step in to stop Lee Chong Wei of Malaysia in the duel these classics.

In the year 2011, the great hope lies in the mixed doubles pair Tontowi Ahmad / Lilyana Natsir and pair Nadya Melati / Vita Marissa. But unfortunately, they can only occupy the podium after the second defeat at the hands of the Chinese partner. Tontowi / Lilyana give up in the hands of Zhang Nan / Zhao Yunlei, while Nadya / Vita must recognize the benefits of Wang Xiaoli / Yu Yang.

Actually, Indonesia's record in the tournament, which was held in the country is also somewhat sweet, Indonesia managed to win all titles in 1983, 1996, 1997, and 2001. Indonesia has recorded 79 winning titles throughout its implementation, followed by China who collected 34 degree and 10 degree South Korea. However, in the last three years Indonesia has always bite the finger, aka not acquired the allocation champion, could Indonesia back to the highest podium? Come on Indonesia, We Believe!

Stage Set for ‘Big Three’ at Indonesia Open
Tuesday, May 28, 2013 - Text by Dev Sukumar

    http://www.bwfbadminton.org/news_item.aspx?id=74233

    Excerpts:

The return of Lin Dan has thrown up some fascinating prospects for the next Superseries Premier event, starting 10 June in Jakarta. Following today’s draw, the Chinese Olympic champion – who must negotiate his way through qualifying rounds after his self-imposed hiatus – could be across the net from hometown legend and former world and Olympic champion Taufik Hidayat in the first round.

...The potential first-round battle between Lin Dan and Hidayat assumes significance because this tournament will be the great Indonesian’s final event. The contests between these Men’s Singles gladiators have lit up world badminton over the years, with Hidayat dominating the early exchanges but conceding ground after 2006.Their last match was at London 2012. After Lin Dan won 21-9 21-12, he paid a tribute to his Indonesian rival, saying it had been “an honour” to have been Hidayat’s opponent in his final Olympics match.

Since his Olympic triumph, Lin Dan has not played on the BWF Superseries tour and will have to compete in the qualifying draw. The Indonesia Open is one of the few tournaments that the two-time Olympic champion has not won, and it will be interesting to see if he can announce his comeback in grand fashion. He plays world junior champion Kento Momota (Japan) in the first round of qualifying before a clash with either Scott Evans (Ireland) or Sai Praneeth (India), assuming he beats Momota.

Hidayat, for his part, would be keen to bid goodbye to his professional career in as respectable a manner as possible, and would like to make it difficult for his Chinese opponent. The Indonesia Open occupies a special place in Hidayat’s heart – it was here, way back in 1999, that he showed he was capable of winning a big title despite the tremendous pressure of playing in front of his home crowd. He has won six titles here, providing much cheer for the fanatic supporters of Indonesian badminton. For the most part of his career, he has been their lone icon, an inheritor of the legacy of players like Allan Budi Kusuma, Ardy Wiranata and Joko Suprianto, all of whom are past winners of the Indonesia Open.

Meanwhile, Chen Long (China, 2), who has beaten Lee Chong Wei in their last two matches, is favourite to make the final from the lower half of the draw, but he will guard against complacency, surely remembering how he was upset last year by Kashyap Parupalli (India) in the second round.

Parupalli’s compatriot Saina Nehwal (India, 2) has scripted her own fairytale in Women’s Singles at the Indonesia Open, having reached each of the last four finals, and winning three. Nehwal has become a darling of the Indonesian crowd and she has stated that this is her favourite tournament. Her familiar foes Li Xuerui and Wang Shixian (both China) lurk in the draw.
