Maybe people in Quebec City are that lucky and get a 40% discount :p

Here we have to deal with extreme prices for terrible service!

whoa. i am living in the wrong country!

and to think in China, string labor is around US$1.50 for each string. in HK labor is around US$7.

$35 for a $5 string means that they are raking in $30 in labor.

in the US labor is around $15-20 depending on the store. $10-15 for home stringer. i charge $12 labor only.

But on the subject, is it possible to pinch (or something like that) and maybe alter the string with the claw securing the string?

But it's unlikely that the person stringing it is unknowingly damaging the string in exactly the same place every time, as every one of my snapped strings is always in the upper half of the sweet spot

Sport Chek is the exception to the rule.

Specialized stores will charge about 25$ + taxes for BG65. Not specifying labor costs because some stores make more profit on the strings and some make more profit on the labor so it varies.

@OP, could you post a picture of your racket with the broken strings ?

Sorry but I don't know how to post a picture from an iPhone and I've already torn the rest of the strings out

Under these circumstances, I agree. Sabotage?

I'd like to get a macro picture of the actual broken string end. That should give us some clues.

Try to stay away from the big chain stores, if possible. There are many ways a stringer can damage the string with poor technique and "who cares" workmanship. Also, the way they store their string (e.g. extreme temperature in stock room, really old stocks, etc) can be factors as well.

Those strings would last you a year or more. I play at 25lbs with plastics and have no problems year round in Canada. Most likely the stringer. Sport Chek, yikes, please go to a tennis squash and badminton shop. We have several advanced players in our club that like stringing and charges very little, I feel blessed.

A year at 25lbs ? Do you live in BC ? I dont think I'd last more than a couple weeks with this tension, playing 2-4 times a week and using plastic shuttles.

Although I can't really evaluate how frequently it breaks now, since I pretty much use different rackets everytime I play :\

No, I live in Ontario, I play with BG70. I play twice a week. The performance would suffer after a few month but the string would not break. After the year, the tension would go down to 21lbs from 24lbs.

My friend used to work for SportChek, she said that the stringers hated doing badminton rackets since they take the most time. Not only that, usually the stringers aren't familiar with badminton rackets. The stringers are also just highschool or university students who don't give a crap about anything except their next paycheck. Sometimes they knew what they were doing, but most of the time they had no idea.

Anyway, in my experience they deformed my racket and made it look quite long. Nearly 1cm longer than it should have been -__-. Their strings were also overpriced. So many problems, it was just ridiculous to even try. I'm glad I started stringing for myself.

So if anyone in downtown Toronto or London that is looking for a stringer, let me know ;)
