    things which highly elate me...

    i) reading rare you-should-know-what's-been-happening-lately mails from long lost friends.

ii) when i hear myself sing:D .. which is really quite hilarious, for i've got a crow's talent when it comes to singing.. (but my bro's better still! he can go off-key a few times in a single breath!)

iii) long lost friends who gets as excited as i am in seeing them

iv) when i play a whole music piece without a single mistake.. and that is so rare, one can imagine how it thrills me:)

    v) listening to selected classical music.

vi) reading and re-reading a great book

i can picture it. heheheh! it's cool how you turn such an activity which often leads to severe hair loss/damage into a source of amusement!;)

Sorry to use such a difficult word: anaerobic. My apology:
When you look at most sports played today (See Table 1, below), recreational activities and work-related tasks, the great majority of them place anaerobic demands on the body.

Table 1. Contribution of short, intermediate and long-term energy systems to common sports. This information is useful in determining acute exercise variables for program design. Please note that most sports are anaerobic, yet many athletes and coaches make the mistake of using aerobic training to prepare for anaerobic sports, which actually decreases performance.

M.C. Siff, Y.V. Verkhoshansky. 1993. Supertraining: Special Strength Training for Sporting Excellence. School of Mechanical Engineering, University of the Witwatersrand, South Africa.

I must disagree with the comment that badminton is an anaerobic exercise. It is only the case during super long rallies where you may need that extra little bit for the kill, which one is using their anaerobic reserves. On the whole, badminton is very much an aerobic activity. If it is the case that you are going into your anaerobic reserves during regular play, then that is a sign that you are not physically fit enough for your current pace/level of play.

I see the paper you are citing is likely arguing that most sports use short bursts of energy as an integral part of their play, and that to maximize performance, one should perhaps train to maximize their short energy output (instead of just having better oxygen usage efficiency). That said, in badminton, rarely are you committed to going right to the limit since you need to last the rally. Even powerful moves like continous smashing can go on for a long time, which clearly shows you are not utilizing anaerobic output.

I refer you to the excellent chapter in Jake Downey's "Excelling at Badminton", where he talks at length about training routines which can be used to raise one's aerobic "ceiling". The idea here is that as long as you are still using oxygen to power yourself, you can just keep playing untill you run out of both glucose, and fat! In an anaerobic mode, your body can only go for minutes at a time at most, because you are using only what energy is available locally near your muscles.

    Dear 604,

Good point. I can't talk with you here on these "anaerobic" thing here. Or someone will say" hai guys, shut this thread-offtopic".

We must talk "what makes you happy-apart from badminton" or some other will force us to take quizes, psychology test etc.
