Hang on I've just remembered something, no one watches women's doubles anyway, so what is the big fuss all about?!
Ha yeah the matches are rubbish now they are ruining all of badmintons image, BWF should just ban womens doubles
if OLY committee can disqualify an athlete due to her racist remark on twitter, it will be sooo freaking mind boggling if they can't act strictly towards these shameless acts done by the baddy players and their associations.
or, or, an empty stadium when they come to play for QF... *devilish grin* badminton fan fast losing interest and will BWF take action then???
If you do a blind draw of what group plays who AFTER draw play is done then no matter how much money you pay, a blind draw of 4 bits of paper is random. You could end up in the same bracket as your team mate or you may not. In this case you better play hard or you end up playing your team in qf instead of sf
Does anyone have factual information on how many walkovers took place since the last 12-18 months? And if "already qualified for knock-out stage" is the primary justification for not providing the paying public an olympic spectacle, one just have to replay today's Womens Football match between Great Britain and Brazil. Both teams gave it all to top their pool. What played out today in the WD pool plays at Wembley Arena must not surprise anyone. Did the team coach(es) play the system? Is this against the Olympic Spirit? Methinks the answers are yes to both. Can this be fixed? Probably yes. Can an official enforce sportsmanship? Why? No. They should never. Not everyone is afforded opportunity to represent their country and themselves at the pinnacle of their sport, and ostensibly, these players and their coaches lost out.
In soccer, so many times happened, in a group of 4, when a team already qualified, then the last match, the coach rest their best players for the next stage. Put the reserve players. Nobody calling the coaches to be banned ?
except in badminton, there is reserve player they need to play, they need to entertain it is not matter of them anymore but it is form of respect to the audience who pays for the game who pay small bit of the player's paycheck if they win, who support them to play, who come and expect a great match between those players
Its funny how this would all be handled differently if I was making a lot of money by predicting when China was going to match fix and betting against them.. But since no monies involved BWF doesnt care.
And just like in the NBA, in the 4th quarter, there is "Garbage Time" in a one-sided game, when the losing team would bench their best players and just send out their reserve players to run out the remaining time. Hmmmm, cheating the paying customers!
In Soccer, so many times.. Blah blah But they didnt go out and try and score more own goals than their opponent did they?
But at least the bench warmers get experience. Also the game lasts the same amount of time AND the scrubs are trying hard to impress. Skill might not be there, but effort is definitely higher.
Actually, there is at least one match I remember it was boring 0-0, nobody tried to score and in the end, someone score an own goal. Try to research that
Heard another controversy on Day 4 on the way back from the get-together in Manchester...May or may not be China's fault, as Korea and Indonesian pairs also were involved...What's up with that? Could it be the fault of the BWF format of allowing 3 pairs/players from 1 NOC to qualify? or is it the fault of the group play format (like Thomas & Uber Cups)? Anyone else remember the Korean Thomas Cup team who did something similar (throwing away matches) in the recent Thomas Cup (2008, if not mistaken)? and forcing BWF to change the rulings?.. Is badminton becoming the butt of all jokes of all the Olympic sporting events? There's a good chance after the 2016 OG, badminton will be axed for good from the OG.. Btw, wasn't clear on whether a black card was given to the INA vs. KOR pair ? heard it was handed out but also heard it wasn't handed out..?
OK so let me clarify what happens in the INA VS KOR match today I got it from PBSI website: http://pb-pbsi.org/app/information/newsDetail.aspx?/1175 This is what Mel Grey coach (Paulus Firman) said: both of the team wants to avoid to meet Wang Xiaoli/Yu Yang in quarter final what happened? this is all happened when Wang and Yu tried to lose and become runner up So what do you said to Mel and Grey? both of us (INA and KOR) wants to avoid Wang and Yu. however I asked Grey and Mel to fight. even if they meet Wang and Yu, it is OK as long as they tried to fight back why referee almost give the black card? referee gave many warnings to both team, but both of them didn't fight at all so referee wanted to give the black card to both team. after that, INA and KOR team discuss with the referee. they said they will fight for real now after that the referee put back the black card it seems that you were debating about something with KOR coach, what happened? KOR coach said we are not fighting for real they said it is better not to fight. P.S: they put all of the blame to CHN pair (Wang / Yu) if Wang / Yu win the game, both team (INA and KOR) would fight to death to avoid to meet Wang / Yu P.S.S: KOR team would bring this incident to BWF INA team would also do the same Personal opinion (yes above is what they said from PBSI website): KOR team should also bring the CHN VS KOR incident, not only INA VS KOR one
Allow me to quote a part of FDR's famous speech (with a bit alteration): Yesterday, July 31st, 2012, a date which will live in infamy. And to make it even more embarrassing, our athletes were part of this scandal as well. :crying::crying:
BWF only have themselves to be blamed. All kind of unsporting behavior (match fixing, walk over, etc) has gone unpunished for years. It's like giving a message to everyone: "it's okay to do that when you have the chance". As if this is not enough, they decided to make a group stage in Olympic when the last matches in the group are not conducted at the same time (well, it's impossible anyway, given the limited amount of courts). I would say, disqualifying CHN, KOR, INA (and JPN?) would be unfair (not that I accept their behavior) given the way BWF treated other unsporting behaviors in the past. Please BWF, instropect yourself!
