Hi. I like my rackets to be really light, such as 87 grams. But lately, a few of my newer rackets have already reached 90 grams and I am getting used to them. However, will I notice a big difference from a racket that is 93-94 grams compared to my 90 gram rackets? Thank you!
There are very few good racquets that weigh in excess of 90 grams. There is a point where moving a racquet defensively or around the net becomes too hard work. The heavier weight may in fact give you more power and a more solid touch as strange as that may sound. You can train to speed up your defence very easily by using my armchair exercises. You'll find the videos on my blog. Paul www.badminton-coach.co.uk
Yonex deems a 5 g difference to be indistinguishable, and they've probably done their homework; personally, anything less than three doesn't register with me.
if you meant 87g with strings and grip, then you're looking at 79g racket dry wt?! i know of no vt80 or mx80 rackets that are even close to that, and if those have been your recent rackets, then i don't know where you can get them that light...
lol no my vt80 and mx80 are 90/91 grams and I wanted to know if a racket weighing about 94-95 grams will make a noticeable difference.
3-4 grams can make a noticeable difference depending on where the grams are located. 3-4 grams more head weight is quite easy to feel and will affect your swing
The best way to answer this is to lend a friends racket. We can't really tell you, if you, could feel a difference. Add some Lead tape to your racket to test it rather than buying a new heavier racquet, but placement of the extra weight will change the feel.
