New Badminton tournament: The 2012 Axiata Cup

Th draw will be done tomorrow in Jakarta at Sultan hotel where the players will be staying.
INA has not announced the players yet but there 2 teams: GARUDA and RAJAWALI.
They will use SINGLE court only from March 23 to 25th...the place: Tennis Indoors hall..no news about ticketing or free of charge....

 

the malaysia team b looks more exciting than the team a

 

Tennis indoors has smaller seating capacity compared to Istora. Is the organisers expecting not very big audiences ? I think it could be sold out even in Istora if there is good enough publicity.

But using 1 court only, maybe there should be VVIP seating on the same floor as the court. If there is such a close seats, it would be different than other tournament.

 

I have been told that Kido/Hendra and Bona/Ahsan will be same group and Alvent/AG will be together with Angga/Rian

 

wow, the champion will earn 400,000 US$

Indonesia Doubles Up for Upcoming Axiata Cup

Indonesia’s shuttlers will have a good warm-up before the Thomas Cup in May as the country’s badminton association said on Tuesday that it would send two teams to the inaugural Axiata Cup.

Eight teams from Southeast Asia will vie for $1 million in prize money. Group stages will start in Jakarta and Kuala Lumpur on March 23.

Indonesia will send two teams to the tournament: Garuda and Rajawali. Malaysia will follow suit with its Tigers and Leopards. Singapore, Vietnam, Thailand and the Philippines will send one squad each.

Garuda consists of Simon Santoso, Taufik Hidayat, Sony Dwi Kuncoro, Mohammad Ahsan, Bona Septano, Markis Kido and Hendra Setiawan.

The Rajawali team includes less-established players Tommy Sugiarto, Sheshar Hiren Rustavito, Dionysius Hayom Rumbaka, Angga Pratama, Ryan Agung Saputra, Hendra Aprida Gunawan and Alvent Yulianto Candra.

Garuda was drawn in Group J. It will play in Jakarta against Malaysia’s Leopards, Singapore and Vietnam.

Malaysia’s Tigers, Rajawali, the Philippines and Thailand comprise Group K and will play in Kuala Lumpur.

Each team match includes two singles matches and one doubles match. The top two in each group go to the semifinals.
