A couple more things you can do off-court
Hi demolidor! Thx for link... Nice girls... Are you from USSR ? Migrated in Finland? 2-nd question - in the movie, which begans with mr.Medvedev's speech, continued with episode when mr.Putin and mr.Medvedev plays the best game in the world (Badminton) - i want say that i watched full this movie (about an hour), where the the national coach of Russia team explain the Badminton basics. She said, that you can hit the shuttlecock with your arm, leg, head... any other part of your body when you playing. Plz answer - is it a new rule? Or forgotten an old one... Because i asked about this my expirienced senior co-member of club - he said that "it's not true - you can hit shuttle with raquet only..." May be it's new rule? Thx.
Don't do wrist curls. You want to train to be powerful to move the weight of your racket quickly, not beef up your forearms. Wrist curls is the wrong type of movement for smash anyway, its more for push drive/tap kill. I find that using a light kettle bell works. Hold it and let it hang down. Then twist your wrist clockwise and counter clockwise. but stop the momentum of each twist by changing direction of rotation. This strengthens forehand and backhand. The key is to use a light weight for fast twists and fast change of direction.
Tried this? Sports school is using it.
My friends would say that i could hit but my only problem is the footwork. And training for those footwork doesn't stop when you've already memorized all the steps but you need to continuously practice it.
I'm a newbie too. i'm going to give you a link but it's from You Tube. I've been watching these chinese vids and it's helping me a lot. His name is Zhao Jianhua, one of his colleague includes Xiao Jie. Both professionals. Don't worry, the videos are subtitled in english. This is one of the videos that helped me. Look for Jimmy Lin footwork videos on youtube to learn the correct footwork, and then go on to the court and practice those footwork. You don't need a coach for this but its helpful if you can get someone who knows the correct footwork to point out if you are doing it correctly.
Watch others, videos or real life and imitate? Is there any other way to do it? If you don't have an easy way to practice on court alone, just find a good surface, like a football court and draw out the lines yourself.
during playtime i sometimes forgot to used the proper footworks and indeed caused me not to smash the birdie properly or sometimes im almost late to return the birdie with the opponent and that gives them a score... :-(
