To the OP, you lost a lot tension with your test setup. The knots that you tied to the gauge lost a lot of tension. In addition, you clamped one end of the string. You effectively pulled two strings in one go. By doing so uneven tension was introduced.
Exactly Greatest GrandMaster SH!!! I read your post late :crying:. Furthermore, the OP get to re-pull (test) five tests to take out the slacks in the string in order to come to a more accurate reading.
On you video I can see the Clamp move (not the base). The diameter of the cone may be too big for that clamp shaft or the clamp shaft too small.
I think you are right about this. I tried to do SH's setup and the same amount of tension was lost. I used the tennis clamps that were included and there was only a 2lb lost from 24lbs to 22lbs. So what's a good way to fix this? Should we be buying a new base for the badminton clamps? Also does everyone experience tension loss immediately once it is pulled? Because i find that after I pull it, the tension is already being lost immediately.
keep the clamp teeth tight. I've done similar measurement, and got around 10lbs loss as well, but after tighten the clamp teeth, it is only 2lbs loss ...
I appreciate everyone's help, thanks for finding a solution. However, i'm still wondering how i should go about to fix this clamp issue. we bought the pro's pro badminton clamps and they are the ones that don't fit in the slot properly. Are there badminton fixed clamps out there that would fit in the pro's pro machine?
how about the clean the teeth using alcohol. I presume your tennis clamp is used rarely, so it gave a better grip, while your badminton is used frequently, so maybe clean the teeth will help ....
if the clamp didn't grip perfectly, yes it is .... but as SH experiences above, if the clamp does secure its job, then tension result would be better. assuming the different is similar, so if 24lbs gave 15lbs, then for 22lbs, then need to pull 22+(24-15) = 31lbs, while fancy machine with better clamp only need to pull at 24 or 25lbs. my lower-end machine with Wise2086, after clean the clamp teeth, gave 2-3lbs different (follow the SH method above).
I dont think it is the issue with the gripping of the teeth. The string isn't passing through the teeth, it's the head of the entire clamp that is moving. I think what I'm going to do is add a few layers of tape to the shaft of the clamp so that it fits tighter in the hole.
then why not use the tennis clamp for badminton ? many people in Indonesia used their tennis clamp for badminton because their though it is for all kind of rackets. if you have caliper, could you measure the hole diameter, tennis clamp diameter and the all-in-one clamp (similar to Watdon WA3342 : http://www.watdon.co.uk/the-naturalists/acatalog/W_D_Strings.html)
Dear SkiLLz I have same turntable like you have. And a all-in-one clamps from Watdon WA3342. Yes, the hole diameter is too big. And with this setup clamping must be done slightly different then on high-end machines. First get clamp in to the position. Then clamp base. Then push the clamp away from the tensioner. While pushing - clamp the string. Easy Regards, Valentinas
