I will discuss the strength of country in badminton. China ( no comment for this country. in all sector has best shuttler) South Korea ( best MD over all of the country but poor in MS. WS,WD,XD standard) Indonesia ( good MD(3 pairs in world top 10) and XD. MS and WD standard, poor WS) Denmark ( MS,MD,WS,WD,XD standard) Malaysia (MS,MD standard ( even LCW and KKK/TBH is great shuttler but malaysia doesn't have a backup). WS,WD and XD poor) Japan ( MS,WS standard. WD good. MD and XD poor) note : this analyse is based on top 6 country. so, if i say standard it means standard over the 6 top country and of course great over other 6 top country. if i say poor it can mean standard or good over other 6 top country. This analyse can be used to predict the team tournament like Thomas, Uber and Sudirman cup. Any comment and correction?
Denmark are ahead of Indonesia, Japan are ahead of Malaysia! (according to BWF) TPE and India are coming up fast.
Obviously Malaysia is at the bottom of the pack now and they will continue to fall, even if youngsters like Goh Wei Shem/Lim Khim Wah prove their worth it doesn't make much of a difference. Korea seem to be the second all-rounder behind China, save for their MS which is pretty bad especially after LHI is gone. You might call Denmark standard in all events but I really do wonder. Many have complained about Malaysia not having any reliable backup, while many have forgotten about old Denmark. How long left do they have in Boe/Mogensen, Peter Gade and even Kamilla/Laybourn, Fisher/Pedersen etc.? The only two I have seen rising up the ranks is Jan O' Jorgensen(still inconsistent due to injury), Viktor as well as their young WD. Denmark ain't as strong as many people think. Indonesia has good MS, but not enough to challenge the best. Their MD(BoSan and Alvent/Hendra) as well as WD(Greysia/Meliana) is getting solid while their XD is top tier. Like what some said, it is funny that they rely on men against other countries but against Malaysia where their MS is top tier, MD is second tier, they have to use women to beat them. Their WS can be said as weak but nowhere as weak as what Malaysia has. Japan, quite the all-rounder actually, and their MD is NOT POOR AT ALL.[Have you forgotten about Hashimoto/Hirata and Endo/Hayakawa? Standard at the least.] However, none of them are those who can challenge the top. Hirata/Hashimoto was spectacular during the BAC -> India SS, but besides that none could really challenge the top. Tago is fading fast, Sasaki is not in good form lately. Their WD is actually inferior to INA's GreyMel imo.
agree with this ordering: China Korea Denmark Indonesia Japan Malaysia Denmark vs. Indonesia: MS: Denmark MD: almost equal. might be Denmark slightly ahead WS: Denmark WD: equal XD: Indonesia Japan vs. Malaysia: MS: Malaysia MD: Malaysia WS: Japan WD: Japan XD: Japan
actually, if we think about it, we should add TPE to the mix: Taiwan vs. Malaysia: WS: Malaysia MD: Malaysia WS: Taiwan WD: Taiwan XD: Taiwan we should just bump Malaysia off the top six and have this ordering instead: China Korea Denmark Indonesia Japan Taiwan
You surely underrated Korea. They have good historical record in XD, some of the best in history. And their XD won the last Olympic. It won't be long until another pair comes up. They also won the last Uber cup and I am confident to say they have the best overall woman squad next to China. I think Thailand is also worth mentioning as the strongest emerging nation.
Unfortunately with KOR WS and WD, they're not really that strong. MS is in the tank, so basically KOR has to rely on MD and XD, both of which are strong. Agree with your assessment on Thailand. Very promising youngsters.
WD? Maybe not. Chin/Wong should be better than Jenny/Gabrielle or Sandra/Birgit. XD is 50-50. I would still place MAS on top of ENG and GER. They are the Commonwealth champions after all, beating India in the final.
BWF based is only rate the best single(look at malaysian MS it will valued 1500, the max poin whereas this thread rate all around.) correction : the best MD sector is korea while china has great MD. I agree if it rate only the best player on the sector but if you look at all around you will see that indonesia is better in MS,MD,XD. japan vs malaysia. i agree like that. i forgot to add new force of badminton "Chinesse-Taipei". I confused but also amazed with korea's doubles because they can be broke up for a while and the make a match up with another korea's double player without losing performance. absolutely agree.
I agree MAS WD pair may be better but on current rankings they are below both ENG and GER top pairs. CWG isn't really a proper event
after almost one year i will update this thread and maybe prediction for olympic... China (in all sector has best shuttler. tie at MD) South Korea ( best MD. good WD. MS,WS,XD standard) Indonesia ( good in XD,MD. MS and WD standard, poor WS) Denmark ( MS,MD,WS,WD standard. good XD ) Malaysia (MS,MD standard ( even LCW and KKK/TBH is great shuttler but malaysia doesn't have a backup). WS,WD and XD poor) Japan ( MD standard. WD and MS good. WS and XD poor) CHN-Taipei (poor at MS. MD,WD,WS,XD standar Prediction for olympic gold WS and WD for China... MS (30% Lin Dan, 32% Chong Wei, 23% Chen Long, 15% other) MD (30% Cai-Fu, 30% JJS/LYD, 18% MB/CM, 22% other) XD (30% Zhang-Zhao, 25% Xu-MA, 25% TA/LN, 20% other)
no, i'm serious because i think Chong Wei will be motivated and he rest 2 months to cure his injury absolutely yes.... especialy after CY/FHF retired, i think China doesn't have backup as good as them and China's regeneration is lower to Korea. I mean they have Chai Biao/Guo Zhendong and even Hong Wei/Shen Ye but they need more years to get same level as Lee Yong Dae....
This should be even harder now. There is more balance. Overall still China leads but the gap narrows. Indonesia can't make a breakthrough. Malaysia struggling. India has hit a plateau. Germany performed poorly recently but as European team champions, that has got to count for something. Thailand weak men's. In fact all round, Japan and Korea have the next balanced squads.
