I brought this racquet (Bravesword 10) online, and within 6 month the string snapped during a smash. I'm new to the sport and haven't got the slightest clue about Tension or string manufactures. I'm an offense player who likes to smash, but i occasionally use deception to win. Doesn't anyone know what kind of string i should get and what tension?
if you have no idea what string to get, then get BG80 and have it strung by a good stringer at 23lbs. BG80 is very popular and any worthy stringer should have them in stock. VS850 is a nice string too but not as popular and thus not many stringer stock them.
Thanks, but do you mind telling me why the string tension should be 23Ibs instead of anything higher.
Because you mentioned that you're new to the sport and any beginner should be able to handle 23lbs. You can try higher tension and learn the "hard" way
Learning the "hard" way doesn't sound fun, is the shuttlecock difficult to control at higher tensions? I'm only asking because i believe the pre-stung factory tension was 27Ibs. But if 23Ibs is ideal I can't argue with that.
It was prestrung at 27lbs ? I doubt it, most prestrung rackets are at around 17-21lbs. Unless you requested 27lbs when you purchased it, then I doubt it was at that tension. 23lbs should be a good starting point.
Definitely not 27lbs when I got mine (OE string) It was @ ~ 19lbs But you can't go wrong with BG-80 @23lbs to start Ashaway micropower ain't bad either GL
Beginners can use 21-23 lbs with nearly no problems at all. Above that requires the player to be intermediate/advanced. I've heard from my friend that BG 80 is most effective when it's 24 or 24+ lbs. But like most people say, BG 80 is the go-to string because it's such an all round string that everyone likes ^_^. I bought my strings from squash_mart from ebay online. Buy 9 packs of BG 80 and get 1 free. It's actually cheap and good quality too, I made comparison with the ones you can purchase from stores and it's almost like 50% off (excluding shipping fees). So at the stores, they sell BG 80 for $15 CAD but I bought them for $7 each. Looking online and buying large quantity will save you more money but make sure you like the string first. I bought 1 BG 80 first and absolutely LOVED it. Perfect for offense and has a "hard" feeling when you hit.
