I bet you if WYH smiled a bit more (and I have seen pic), she'd be pretty darn attractive and people might not get the impression she's such a sour puss.

    Gu Juan still standing "tall"

After the bruising defeat of our WD defending champions, Yao Lei and Shinta, at the hands of the Russians, Gu Juan remains the only Singaporean left standing to carry the Singapore flag into the quarter-finals today.

She encountered a hard-fought 16-21, 21-16, 21-15 victory over Japan's Ai Goto after losing the first game. Ai Goto is perhaps the shortest player in this tournament, even shorter than Gu Juan, but she is a very tenacious fighter. However the 21-year-old Gu Juan will have to do her best to overcome third seed Wang Xin of China today to gain a place in the semi-finals tomorrow.

Can she make history for Singapore as what Yao and Shinta did last year by winning the WD? Gu Juan has already met her target of a QF appearance. Making it to the SF will indeed exceed all expectations. :)

An absorbing WS between Schenk and Ratchanok

Juliane Schenk (GER) bt Inthanon Ratchanok (THA) 17-21, 21-16, 21-18

A well-matched battle between German's No.1 and the youngest Thai lady in WS.

It lasted for just over an hour and in the end the persistent German capitalized on her vast experience to overcome an impressive Ratchanok who seemed to like rolling on the floor, not that Juliane did not have her fair share of diving to save a shot herself. :D

The "Rat" will certainly have time on her side to prove her abilities in the foreseeable future. :p

Perhaps a unipod could help you. I always carry a unipod with me since my camera+ lens weigh 2.5kg. BTW, I completely understood your dilemma, when concentrating on your camera, you may forget to watch and enjoy the game.

I carried a tripod on 15th, but I wasn't getting good angle :( maybe I was too close to the court. It was better when I sat about 6-8rows from court. I was able to capture more.

It's the qf. I just wanna enjoy watching the game :) I'll still try to capture some shots but not as many.

Loh: from your photos, it seemed like you're sitting quite close to me. Are you sitting in the regular seats or the premier area?

I'm sitting about 4 rows behind the Premier Seats. Higher level but quite central.

ah. now i know why you got to reach an hour before the game starts. it's hard finding a good seat in the normal area, unless you come really early.
