Lin Dan says that he wants to participate in all the tournaments that he CAN participate in. He didn't say that he wanted the world number one spot, but he said that he wanted to get more RANKING POINTS. Also, the media speculated that this might be an indication that he wanted to get back to world number one.

Good news in my opinion, hopefully LYB doesn't interfere!

    .
Correct. Lin Dan said that this year's task is to participate in Super Series as much as possible, to get points. There is no mention that he is going after the #1 postion.

IMHO, Lee Chong Wei could remain as World No.1 until retirement after the 2012 London Olympic Games.

I doubt LCW is gonna retire anytime soon especially if he fails to win the next WC and/or Olympics. He's gonna be another Peter Gade or Taufik... playing until he cant play anymore as Malaysia is far from bringing another top MS player (if they still cant beat Hafiz imagine LCW)...

I wouldnt be surprised to see LCW play in Rio in 2016 lol

The London Olympics will be held in 2012. Each country can field two players in each event or 3 if all of them are highly ranked.
Now which country can dream of sending 3 MS and 3 WS other than China? LD in the national interest is placed as the number 3 in China in ranking points. This is because it is easier for him to get enough points to qualify for the Olympics by being the country's ranked no. 3 so long as the other two higher ranked Chinese players stay highly ranked.
No, LYB does not seem to have anything to do with it. LD is not stupid and he knows how to play 'chess' much better than you think.
The strategy is simple. Allow two other Chinese MS players to pile up as many ranking points as possible, even if it is at LD's expense, so long as he can catch up to fill the number 3 slot in a late spurt.
This is very different to that in Malaysia where all resources are diverted to just one player. Now what happens if it fails? Misbun is supposed to produce many carbon copies of LCW? Has he or is the possibility of complete failure so great that he has a breakdown? Now calm has returned after the nightmare of being held accountable for the backup MS players' performance is ditched. If he can produce a LCW why can't he produce more? Or is it the other way-that LCW will do no better or worse with or without MS? Now we cannot tell, can we?

Well after OLY 012 if nothing comes off it, by then people would be counting their money.

The politicians by that time would have already fully milked the relationship after scoring in the elections before that.

A true win-win situation and money well invested.

Malaysia should be very very proud of LCW achievements. He brought "Malaysia" to the world with his achievements. Badminton is not restricted to Korea, China, Denmark ... There are so many fans around the world in other countries. LCW, with his No 1 ranking bring MY to the attention to the rest of the world.

WR1 only have that kind of impact like LCW when they hold that status for an extended period. LCW is exceptional because he has to fend off an army of CHN MS regularly to maintain his WR1.

Sorry, the other MAS players have no positive impact at all. If you were to ask fans outside MAS about badminton, they will know LCW as an exceptional Malaysian. LCW humbled Team CHN and LYB and have also won the respect and admiration of Team CHN and their fans. Single-handed.

Like txv611 said, Malaysia should be proud of LCW.( Why must it often be some poster from Singapore to appreciate LCW?)

What s wrong with you MAS fans. Do you know because of LCW, people still think Malaysia is great? Without him, people may laugh at MAS badminton. Your MAS MD is lousy, XD is lousy, WS is lousy and WD is lousy.

Oh, and your BAM is lousy and ctc is lousy and your local sponsor, Proton is lousy and a major jinx. Isn t it a coincidence that LCW won AE100 with international name ING as the sponsor?

ING could offer a lot more money which means more tournament opportunities for the second tier players. How can Proton continue to be sponsor when they offer less? Didn t MAS XD win the BAC title wearing the ING tag? If so, it s amazing coincidence.

Why don t BAM increase their sponsorship money by having Proton sponsor for tournaments where Proton cars are sold like South East Asia. Then let ING be sponsor for the rest of the world? It s a win, win, win situation.
