WOW!! I didn't know there was a definitive list of vancouverite BF'ers... count me in! Just a thought, how can we all fit in the VRC if even a quarter of the people on the list comes out? Nelson
I've been trying to fight off my shoulder injury in the past month or so, but things still aren't looking that great. I'll get back with you guys some time next week to let you know whether I'm in a good enough shape to play? -Rick
Quite simply, we can't. Sorry to put a damper on things but VRC would never allow so many guests in on a single night. Doing so without permission would probably result in all VRC BF members involved getting fined or their memberships revoked. You would have to specially rent/book the entire VRC hall in order accommodate such an event. For such a large event, I strongly suggest you consider an alternative venue such as ClearOne or Bethany Church gymnasium, that is prepared to book courts for the public.
Timeless, relax man, half of the people I listed out aren't even active members and some are juniors, some aren't even in vancouver anymore, some are injured, some got families, and some are too chicken so really once again, don't worry about overcrowded, I seriously don't think more than 10 non-members would attend.
Hey all I'm asking is that you abide by the rules of the club. You may not be a VRC member but for those of us that are, we don't need any negative attention since we're there quite often.
technically speaking, provided there was an equal number of guests to vrc sponsoring members it's all above board. from a practical standpoint, the problem as regular members know is some nights are absolutely packed, and adding another 10 or so guests is adding another 2.5 or more court wait and could make the time between games unbearably long. that's usually when regular members start griping and looking around for unfamiliar faces, and usually the black guest book gets pulled out for tag search. btw - another vrc rule that some members may be breaching - rule 6.04 "Guests are not permitted to play without the sponsoring member present on club premises." that means if the member has to leave earlier, technically the guest isn't supposed to be playing. if a director happens to come in and enquire about a guest, and is traced to the club member, he/she can be fined $50.
That's one of the reasons I am reluctant to go to the VRC gatherings. Don't want to get the members into unnecessary trouble. If it's OK I might join on that day.
i agree with timeless. a gathering like this will be awesome, but not at the expense of VRC's other members. perhaps SB can have everybody who wants to join RSVP and then find a time and rent a gym for the occasion. i am sure most member won't refuse spending a few dollars to join the gathering. unfortunately, it doesn't look like i will be able to go to Vancouver until 2005. i need to go to HK to get my visa renewed first before i can travel to another country. otherwise i will be the first to RSVP!
If SB is to go ahead and do the organizing, then I suggest 2005 (when Kwun can be here) as a tentative date for the Ultimate BF Battle. Hey who knows, I might have the new facility ready by then
Book the whole of ClearOne, speak to Darryl. Late nite snacks in Richmond later, make it an unofficial tournamnet, winner gets free meal. June 26 is not good 4 me , if after first week of July, count me in.
How about we just screw the World Championship and have the Ultimate BF Battle on the same date.hhahaha
Renting a school gym during Summer Break Can we rent a school gym for that, while schools are on summer breaks?
The thing is, im sure the school boards won't jus let 20 adults, who aren't even students of that school to go into their school and use their gym without any Teacher Supervision.
I think we need to get a rough body count. Like any event, rental of the facility will be a major cost, then trying to find an appropriate date in which BFers can commit! Cheers!
Is this a gathering or a tournament?? I'd be interested in a gathering since they've always proved to be so much fun, and it's great making new friends etc. Not very interested in a tournament though.
