Howver good thing is: LD has ntg to worry / focus in future as he has swept all the big titles he want...

No bad feelings. If the loser was LD, you may not see these expressions. He would be too devastated.

"CW was too disappointed and distraught to turn up for the post-match media conference. ........ 'he is sitting at a corner. the defeat was too disappointing for him.'" the Star.

Can't blame him though, because this is the final match that LCW could take the shine out of the 'legend' of LD. If CW won LD will not be complete and cannot be known as the best of all time (in term of wining every majors).
Now even if CW never loses to LD again would be meaningless. He cannot overtake him simply because Mas can never win the Sudirman Cup in his lifetime.

are we fans asking too much from lcw?

    to be number 1 and

to beat lin dan in every major tournaments

especially this ag so that lin dan can't collect his last missing title?

this is too much, what he has done is more than enough.

Can the MODs close this thread since we already knew the answer. No point in continuing and I don't see the thread starter at all.

    Chill, NOKH.

I agree with on this...MAS should be proud of Datuk...He had done all the could, from being sick, to losing to BP and to the SF/final playing 6 grueling games against 2 of the best players in the world consecutively at their homeland taking both to 3 sets...I salute and respect him. Good job. If anyone think this was an easy task, try it yourself.

it is all about expectation and perception.

let's compare PG to LCW. another one of the 4 modern "heavenly kings"

PG has over the year been a very successful badminton player. he has been in world #1 for years at his prime, has won AE and numerous other tournaments. but yet, like LCW, has never won a WC, OC, AG (well...), TC, SC. he has forever been living under (or next to) the shadow of TH, LCW, LD.

if we compare LCW and PG in terms of skills, LCW is better. LCW has a 9-1 record against PG, LCW has beaten TH and LD more than PG has.

the difference between the two of them are striking, how come PG always seems to get a lot of respect and accolade from almost everybody. even if he loses, and he does all the time, his fans still LOVES him, yet LCW always get ridiculed?

Because most MAS fans have not accomplished at the highest level and do not appreciate what it takes to reach there. They think it's easy and thus have high expectations. When expectations are high, so will disappointment. Also some people get puffed up when in ridicule mode. And LCW is a convenient target.

LD gets the better of LCW once again in a major.

We used to opined in LCW style of play from being too passive and not patient enough to wait for the right opportunity to attack. But over recent years, LCW have tried all there he could from playing a more aggressive game to engaged LD in super long rallies. No matter which method he chose to play, LD more often than not ended up being the winner.

It tells us that on a level playing field, LD's standard is simply better than LCW.

yes, unless lcw strikes a form and colllect all those major titles

maybe that will silence them a bit.

but guess that is a dream, considering next ag in 2014.lol

so the bottom line, he will continued to be the target by some,

    even his country men. lol

the other thing is, if he is not wr no.1, maybe he won't be mentioned so much in bc.

I don't think this is true, I think there are a huge number of fan that recognizes LCWs greatness and admire and love to see him play. And that many people appreciate him and realizes that he is above PG and Taufik in strength. Just looking at this AG most people WANTED and EXPECTED a final between Lin Dan and Lee Chong Wei!! "The dream final".. Not many epected Taufik vs Park in the finals :) .
But talking about Chen Jin, Gade, Taufik, Lee Chong Wei and other heroes, we have to realize that they all fade when comparing to Lin Dan. Just ask thse guys themsselves who they think is the most complete badminton player :-D :p..

I think one of the problems for Lee Chong Wei to get that auro of "invincibility" is his playing style.. LCW likes to put up a brickwall-defence and just defend better than the opponents offensive.. And this somewhat passive style of play is maybe not the "ideal" playing style to appeal to fans, the times games are lost.. It is all-right if your defence wins you the game/tournament, but if you loose with this slightly passive playing-style, you do not come out as a hero if you defended and the opponent succeded in cutting trough your defence :p .. If you play more agressive and controlling game, it does "look" better the times when you loose imop..

BTW i Think Chen Jin has the same "aura" problem.. His style of play isn't simply as "beautiful" and forecful as Lin Dan, Taufik, Gade :) .

    Cheers,
    Twobeer
