i thought that refs could only over rule calls in tennis.... i didn't know they were allowed to do that in baddy...

They are not allowed to do so.

Take a rule book with you.

However, there may be some interpretation "differences" given in the preconditions of the tournament written on the entry form.

e.g. they may say "IBF rules apply mostly/sometimes/rarely" :D

Best thing to do(which you lot seem to do very well), is not get bothered about it.

    hmm, i thought so....

any ideas where i can get an "official" looking rule book? (ie: not one i print off the internet?) Or else i could throw in some of my own laws "Law 77: Nanashi's shots are ALWAYS in, regardless of where he hits them, including on his own side of the court"

I would get one, but I don't want to look anal. I figured someone appointed referee would convey qualities such as common sense, objectivity, and not-showing-everyone-you-are-boss-just-for-the-sake-of-it-ness.

    I got a book!
I'll sell it to you for an arm and a leg. :D

Taking the officiating course does have its advantages. :p

Yeah I've had a few chances to take the officiating course, but never bothered too. :(

My coach said today that the ref I've been talking about doesn't do what he does at the second qualifier because the players there know what they're doing, as opposed to some teams at the first qualifier who don't know half the rules.

"Ohh... right I forgot the lines are fat and long for doubles..."

Well, the officials at OFSAA took the officiating course so they should know at least a bit and won't screw up that much...at least i HOPE so....i'm sure Alex Stephen would know what he's doing with keeping the score :D

It's funny you should mention keeping score as I happen to be one of the best in the province... maybe the world.

See you there! Are you staying in a hotel? The website http://www.ajaxhs.com/ofsaabadminton has the schedule up now. MS, MD, and WD are in Ajax HS. WS and XD are each in a separate school.

    :(

It was pretty nice this weekend at OFSAA. Some very exciting matches, i have to say, nanashi, your mixed match's 1st game was pretty tight.

    hmm... you saw my game?

would i happen to know you??

my 2nd round B match was CLOSE.... won the first game 15-13 or something like that.... lost the 2nd game 15-5 or something like that (we started off the game down 13-0.... that was BAD...) and won the last game 17-14 or something.....

perhaps playing mixed at OFSAA was not wise... when you consider that both my partner and I have no idea how to play mixed....

Because its plastic so smashes are much more powerful, which just helps his game even more. It helps that hes 6-foot something and can hit it within inches of the sidelines.
