Okay, I get the replacement battery already but the hard drive is making this "tick . . . tick . . ." sound once in a while. The RunCore SSD and other SSD models from different manufacturers seem like a good bet on extending the life of old laptop but price is not right at the moment. What do you guys think? http://www.runcore.com/content/prod...images/RCP-IV-P2500-Cth.jpg&GBSize=32GB-256GB http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LICnSMPDMIA http://www.tomshardware.com/news/laptops-ssd-upgrade-runcore-hdd,9424.html#comments
Time to get a new laptop!! That's what I think lol. But if know how to install the ssd then should be fine. What OS are you running pete?
yes, I will upgrade HD and Win to Win 7. Get to wait for price of SSD to come down and further development to appear. The technology is not mature yet.
get xp pro or win 7. vista scares me I'm glad i had missed the vista cycle just bot my very 1st laptop last week my p4 2.8 just died yesterday, phew, can't get any closer just before tax time.
If it's the processor then there's not much point in buying the same one lol... if it's the motherboard might as well get a new PC. I suspect it's prolly one of the socket 478s or the ones just after if not the earlier 423? (can't rmb clearly).
i think it was the cpu itself, overcame from heat damage It was at compact size dell unit, so cooling isn't great. The cpu exhaust air was pretty hot but i thot that was normal. When i opened up the case, the cooler fins were imbedded with dust. I cleaned it up and ran much cooler after that but i think it already suffer permanent damage. The pc would run for say an hour and then unexpectantly freeze up. That pc came to me used from a business, made in 2004. I likely replace the cpu when i have some free time and ebay price to come down more actually the p4 2.8 served me pretty well, fast enough to do MS office and surfing, made many bf postings with it I'm sure it was a good 1000$ for a basic p4 2.8 back then now i have to go fix the "NTLDR is Missing" non-booting error on that old dog
very good.. ..new spanking fast laptop! now you're all set to regain your no.1 spot for most BC postings from our george@chongwei!..
taken from MS site. i think it's better to get the 64 bit version as it can run 32 bit program but not the other way around. u need a cpu which can run at 64 bit.http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/...and-64-bit-windows-frequently-asked-questions How do I tell if my computer can run a 64-bit version of Windows? To run a 64-bit version of Windows, your computer must have a 64-bit-capable processor. To find out if your processor is 64-bit-capable, do the following: Open Performance Information and Tools by clicking the Start button , clicking Control Panel, clicking System and Maintenance, and then clicking Performance Information and Tools. Click View and print details. In the System section, you can see what type of operating system you're currently running under System type. Under 64-bit capable, you can see whether you can run a 64-bit version of Windows. (If your computer is already running a 64-bit version of Windows, you won't see the 64-bit capable listing.) Can I run 32-bit programs on a 64-bit computer? Most programs designed for the 32-bit version of Windows will work on the 64-bit version of Windows. Notable exceptions are many antivirus programs. Device drivers designed for 32-bit versions of Windows won't work on computers running a 64-bit version of Windows. If you're trying to install a printer or other device that only has 32-bit drivers available, it won't work correctly on a 64-bit version of Windows. If you are unsure whether there is a 64-bit driver available for your device, go online to the Windows Vista Compatibility Center. Can I run 64-bit programs on a 32-bit computer? If the program is specifically designed for the 64-bit version of Windows, it won't work on the 32-bit version of Windows. (However, most programs designed for the 32-bit version of Windows will work on the 64-bit version of Windows.) Device drivers designed for the 64-bit version of Windows won't work on computers running a 32-bit version of Windows. To learn how to check for drivers, see Update a driver for hardware that isn't working properly or go to the device manufacturer's website.
may i ask why this practice? i thot the battery would act as a ac/dc converter and voltage spike dampener. I kept the battery inplace during AC operation
Battery has so many charge cycles. To maximize its life, take out the battery when you plug the laptop into the AC outlet.
