One times more the Danes dominate the tournament. Should be interesting : Gade vs Zwiebler Jorgensen vs Ouseph Laybourn/Rytter Juhl should have no probs against Claes/Descamps I notice that 3 of the 4 md semifinalist pairs are from Denmark
Yeah you're right on this. Laura/Weny lost to the English pair in a looooong match (1h03) :'( hope Lady Pi will win against Juliane, she's seeded 1
Too bad father time favors Juliane Schenk, two years ago it would be no question who would win. I see Schenk already won once this year ... But I support Pi as well . But how on earth Choinet/ Rahmawati got 3rd seed . If the ranking was based on strength they wouldn't even make Top 8. Should have lost in two as well .
You're hard eh ! Mariana/ Heather aren't world champions neither. Despite some players/pairs dominate Wd in Europe (Anastasia/ Danes girls), this draw seems versatile in Europe. [off-topic news/anecdote : do you know why Weny Rahmawati is now Weny Rasidi ? She has just married Arif Rasidi, a native Indonesian pro player here in France. He plays in clubs as a pro and is since a few years a coach for ms and ws french players in the team. I met him for a few minutes two years ago, he's a cool guy, looks happy ]
Mateusiak looks up for it . Normally I'd hope they win but I just wagered some "candy" on their opposition . Didn't keep an eye on the other match but 21-8 to the danes! It was 6-6 when I switched!
And they still lost?!? Well I wouldn't put either in my top 8 of the pairs present here . They're lucky to be in the weakest part of the draw ...
This is the first "real" opposition in this tournament after beating three pairs I have never really heard of before. Long way to go but 21-18 & 8-4 to POL pair.
Comfortable victory for the world champions.........21-8 21-14 against claes/descamps of Belgium. ENG pair come back from 15-11 in the 2nd game to lead 17-15 now....decider most likely.
12-3 to the russian ladies in the other match going on right now . To think I was close to deleting my PAW ...
Nope, that was supposed to be the match of the day ... Pi versus Schenk should be tight but whether it's entertaining is another . Zwiebler up 8-4 though and maybe Raj can provide some resistance and make it entertaining ...
The day ends with no shocks except Schenk Beating Pi, I have seen Schenk play beofre & she has some good wins, but I didn't think she had the game to beat Pi?
I think she has stepped up her game a notch the last year whilst at the same time her euro-competition is on the slide, with most of them being on the wrong side of 30 already (Pi, Yao, Meulendijks). If I had to pick between them for my PAW I would have chosen Schenk today. Foolishly I had used her already in the other fantasy game FANBAD. Thought Pi versus Nedeltcheva was more risky a pick in the QF. My alternate was Ella Diehl over Yao Jie. Jie is an amazing player when you see her live but her fitness is what let's her down, which is pretty much Diehl's strongpoint. Also Schenk is creeping up to 28 so she should have about put in her 10000 hours . Interesting progress: fr 13-3-2009 WS Hongyan PI [4] - Juliane SCHENK 21-18 21-13 fr 14-8-2009 WS Juliane SCHENK [11] - Hongyan PI [8] 21-15 15-21 19-21 we 10-3-2010 WS Juliane Schenk - Hongyan Pi [4] 21-23 21-12 21-15 And then today: sa 17-4-2010 WS Hongyan PI [1] - Juliane SCHENK [3] 14-21 13-21 Should be interesting tomorrow, other than the WS anything is possible. Tine R being the clear favorite there.
