I did read in a few threads it's USD$200 or USD$250 per participant. That's a lot after conversion.

My answer to Dr. Evil was because in his sentence, I misread the "its".
It should be "it's" and I saw "is", hence my reply.
Anyway your explanation is more comprehensive. Thanks.

it shouldn't be much for CBA/LinDan..

$250 is the amt, just didn't bother to give the exact amt cos it's less than $500 anyway.
A lot? Well, it depends to which country/national body. For CBA, i think they should be fine (esp. w/LinDan making well over $1 mil)..;)

    ^^Not "fined"..^^

..but "fine"/okay. IMO, CBA should not be affected much with the fine/penalty amt.

Last minute withdrawals is most unfair to overseas spectators who spend good money, flew some many miles hoping to watch good matches but end up disappointed just because some big headed players whimsically refuse to play.

They may be good players but they do not help promote the game. The very game that gives them a lot of money.

Can't agree with you more. That's why I say some action must be taken.
I remember in the past there were some talk by BWF to ban the player for the following 1 or 2 tournaments. Has BWF chicken out because it's always China and Indonesia, the powerhouses doing this?

LOL at people saying BWF should fine players for last minute withdrawls. so naive...

The prize money of all badminton tournaments are so minimal already, thus how much do you expect the penalties be? US $500? That's more than what half the participants make in the tournament, since those are the people eliminated in the first round with no prize money.

Until they can raise some funds, otherwise they can either let everyone does what he/she likes, or fine them with like $100 or $200 US which is nothing to the top players anyways.

BWF has nothing over China badminton association, most likely PBSI and Korea... so until BWF can make some miracle and make badminton worth while, otherwise nothing will change.

Badminton is the world's quickest withdrawal sport

    .
They say that Badminton is "the world's fastest racket sport", but we say that Badminton is "the world's quickest withdrawal sport".

What a shame really... No wonder Badminton will never catch up with Tennis. Why would sponsors come in, if they noticed these withdrawals happening from our top players. :(:(:(

When badminton players are still governed by their respective national associations, this will continue to happen. The priorities are WC, Olympics, Thomas/Uber Cup, maybe All-England and Sudirman Cup. The other tournaments are practice tournaments, more like a full-dress rehearsal.

When (If) players start having independence, then we may see a reversal. Players start going for the money in SS and SS Final, and giving excuses to miss Olympics and Thomas/Uber Cup. Just look at tennis.

    Which do we want?

National Associations do not appear to care about the promotion of Badminton

    .
For Badminton as a spectator sport, that is to entertain fans who wish to watch good matches; surely we don't care about how National Associations think or prefer.

Yes, sorry to say this - National Associations do not appear to care about the promotion of Badminton. :(:(:(

Some people just don't understand !!!

Penalised those (players or national bodies) who withdrew without a valid reason after they have submitted their names. And it may not be in monetary terms which I think will not be effective. It could be in the form of docking of ranking points or banning the player for next 1 or 2 tournaments.

It is really up to National Associations to think about promoting Badminton worldwide

    .
If BWF were to do as what was suggested, tournament organisers won't be happy either. This is because some National Associations would hesitate to submit their players to participate.

It is really up to National Associations to think about promoting Badminton worldwide, and not to think just about their own teams.
