Not sure if anyone has ever seen these..but I did some browsing and came up with this site: http://www.arktix.de/badminton.html The quality is amazing and the videos are quite impressive. Just thought I'd share with you guys. Enjoy
Codec You can use any media player to play it, you just probably don't have the video codec for it. It uses the Xvid Codec, which you can download here. After you install this, you can just use media player or realone to play the files. http://www.divx-digest.com/software/xvid.html
I'm not sure about the codec..but you can download the DivX player: http://www.divx.com/divx/player/index.php it comes with the codec..and the prog's easy to install. it's well worth it to watch the videos
If my eyes and ears are still good, i believe they are playing... gasp... plastic shuttles. Right after just first hit on file #1, it looks like plastic. Not that i'm displeased, i was just surprised. Imo, they are playing at B+ to A- level.
Great videos - it's useful to see the game from that sort of angle, since the top-down angle shown on TV foreshortens the court. The shuttles are most definitely not plastic. Some evidence: 1. The players keep stroking the feathers. No-one does this with plastic shuttle skirts. 2. They look like feathers on the close-up shots. 3. World-class competitions never use plastics.
I've not seen the video yet, but you must be joking about plastic!?! Plastic shuttles are only used by beginners and certainly not at international level!
I downloaded the videos and watched it for a while (had to do work right now...). It's definitely feather shuttles.
Well, I don't know for the UK, but I can't imagine any "competitive" player playing in plastic! Here in France, as long as a player is "Non Classed" he can play in plastic, but as soon as he is "Classed", he has to play with real feather shuttles.
Many high-standard players in the UK DO play with plastic shuttles, for reasons of economy, although the preference is normally for feather. All official tournaments, however, use feather shuttles.
My misjudgement prolly due to the camera angle which i was use to watching a top down view. The smashes were sounding like whops rather than the crisp cracking sound. The shuttle flight profile seem different (plastic like). I also saw several unforce errors of basic strokes which kinda lead me to believe it wasnt a star rated tournament.
Hmm, I still can't see how a competitor can train with plastic shuttles, then play in competition with feather shuttles and still be effective! If you play in competition with feather shuttles, you need to use the same shuttles during training... seems quite logical no?
Watching that video made me realize how bad I am.... I don't think i could do half of the returns they did
No, you don't need to use the same shuttles. I think it is highly advisable to train with feather shuttles, but the core skills are all the same whether you are playing with the cheapest plastics or the most expensive feathers. It's not the shuttles or the racket that makes the player. Naturally, switching from plastic to feather requires some adjustment, and it is better not to do this in a competition!
You can't do a proper slice or spin with a plastic shuttle, so how can you expect to train correctly like that? If you recuperate "used" feather shuttles for your trainings, it won't cost so much to train with these, but you'll be able to train with real sensations. Anyway it would seem logical for your club to participate in your shuttle expenses if you represent your club in competitions... Did I miss something somehow?
