Hi I am looking to getting in to stringing my own racquets and so have been absorbing as much information as I can from these great forums over the last 2 weeks.

From what I have seen I think that I would like to get a cheapish (<£200) dropweight machine and 2 that have come up quite often in this category are the Klippermate M140 and the Pros Pro Challenger 1.

Although there are several threads already on both of these machines I couldn't find any comparing them directly.

I was looking at the Klippermate as it seems a popular well made machine but I'm concerned about breaking/ warping racquets hence I came across the Challenger with a 6 point system to hold the racquet.

Any thoughts on either of these machines would be appreciated!

    Thanks

Klipper M140 is very well made, and definitely a good purchase for personal usage. I've done over 500 rackets on it, and so far no breakage. Most of my job are 25lbs or below, but per special requests, I did perform jobs as high as 28lbs on this machine.

30lbs no prob! but consider the clamps you'll have to buy as well ;)

Would I get any benefit from having the 6 point system over the 2 point system?

Here is my take, if you got the money, get the Challenger 1. You need to buy a set of badminton clamps for the machine. If you need to string higher than 28 lb more than 1 time a month, get the Challenger 1. Otherwise, get the cheaper of the 2 because both machine can produce same stringing job by a experienced stringer.
2 pt hold down by M140 is secure enough while Challenger 1's 6 pt floating will give you a little more secure feeling. My take on 2pt hold down vs 6 pt float mount is this.
    2 Pt
Pros: Faster mount and unmount. More room to work under. Less chance of getting high noon crack.
Con: Can not string at extreme high tension. Hold down plate might block some string grommets on top.
    6 pt
Pros: More secure mounting. Can string at higher tension (only if you are experienced)
Con: Less room to work with. high noon crack if the side support is not at right place.

    Thanks for the information!

I probably should have said that I am buying from the UK so from what I can see on the websites after postage costs the prices will come to approximately the same.

I can't see myself ever needing to string as high as 28lbs for myself to be honest!

A couple of other questions, the Klippermate is described as a badminton stringing machine does this mean it would not be suitable for Tennis and Squash racquets?

Finally this one is just out interest but is it possible for a experienced stringer to get the same quality stringing job on one of these machines compared to the most expensive out there? If not what differences would you see?

    Thanks

If price is about the same and challenger 1 is in UK, get challenger 1 because in the worse case, it is easier to get it service or return.

Depend on which one you get, I have 1 with both tennis and badminton kit. It works for both.

I have strung from M140 all the way up to ES5Pro. Yes, there is a difference in result. However, is it cost effective? my answer is no.
