Gracious..yes, safe?...don't agree. I have been through several near death experience while playing badminton and also been injured numerous times by either getting hit my the bird of by the racquet, also sometimes diving for the bird i break some bones, very dangerous and manly sport in my opinion. A real MAN's game!

Hihi...I actually mean SAFER than soccer where direct impact happens all the time
Safer when you play indoors despite rains, snow, coldness, heat ...

    Best wihses,

I agree badminton is "safer", if we talking about direct impact in sports like soccer, american football, basketball, etc.

The danger in badminton is mainly because of its fast pace, which result into sudden direction changes and over stretch moves. Therefore, it's more like "self damage". It could be very serious as well.

Therefore, we all need to learn the proper strokes and footwork. Enjoy the game, and be safe. ;)

Well, getting whacked by a newbie partner is one scenario. When I was still in highschool, I was cocky and lack skills (terrible combo, I know) whenever I play baddy. One time I whacked my mixed doubles partner on the head when I went for a shot in gym class... good thing the contact point wasn't on the frame;).

Once I was playing doubles, my partner was trying to do a full backhand swing and he lost the grip of his racquet and he threw off of his hand n hit my finger and broke my finger bones. Good thing is was my left hand.

A few years back... I was playing mixed and given my propensity at the time to drive lots, I returned a low shot back only to hit my partner at the tip of her right ear. I freaked out when she actually cried, so that kinda killed my enthusiasm for mixed doubles for awhile:eek:.

Another time, I was the receipient of a netshot to my lips after my partner executed a high dropshot while I was rushing in to cover the front. The guy who actually hit me was a newbie and somehow his shot managed to find my face even though my racquet was up:eek:. Now that's karma, man!

I haven't had any broken bones while playing badminton. I should consider myself lucky as I haven't partnered with someone like cappy75 .There was one time when my partner hit a drive from the backcourt and the bird hit at the back of my head.It bounce back pretty far.I guess my head would make a better racquet than MP100, MP99, Ti10, AT700, etc.If I tell Yonex about this, I bet they will come out with Skull Bone Power to replace Muscle Power.;)Shhh...Plss don't tell Yonex.

Thankfully it wasn't the same partner:D. The time span between these cases are years apart. The first incident was mixed doubles in high school, the second incident was a mixed doubles just two years ago (geez! now I remember). The time I got hit was in a men's doubles, my partner was a weak player with fondness for dropshots (high or low:D).

Heh! With all those diving and partner whacking... it is a BATTLEFIELD:D!

One of my badminton buddies actual broke his hand.....yep his hand.....
while playing badminton (albert park, Melbourne, 1993).
His (racket) hand was wrapped in cement casing for a week or two. I did not actually witness how he "got it" but many thought he got it from playing australian football or something...
