    HAhahahahahahahahahahaha well said.

To be honest, most people that play at my university club is crap. Thus misleads people into believing that badminton is a sport that is played by just standing around and kind of hitting the shuttle. I guess I can understand why it's laughable by the general audience. Auckland has some pretty good clubs. Go to North Harbour at Bond Crest, Forest Hill, or Auckland Badminton at Gilles Avenue.

:D bamdinton here is quite unwell known.

I doubt anybody not in the badminton team , will know lin dan.

And I've once heard - "badminton is the easier version of tennis".

I felt like showing them facts that were on the internet somewhere and on BCF.

But the answer is very poor popularity

Oh lol sorry I'm from England.

In china is badminton the most popular sport - or is it table tennis - or perhaps another sport?

Badminton in China is only popular in terms of the number of people that play the sport. Reception of professional badminton is still relatively poor compare to sport like soccer or even basketball. But I think it is rising, especially after OG + better sponsorship in recent years.

it's all about marketing and image projection.
Soccer and basketball received well in china because they are perceived as a better sport or more prestigious sport because it is dominated by by west, europe in soccer, US in basketball. Most chinese fans watches them rather playing them. LN knows this that is why they wanna take a crack at badminton since participation base is huge already, much more potential than basketball or soccer since fans thosse only watch and don't buy equips except maybe shirts and other trickets. With badminton, LN can capture both groups, watchers and players. That is why i have been saying in the past years, the major sport companies have been missing out on badminton.

In Jamaica, it's rising in popularity. No one really thinks it's a sissy sport, partially due to the fact that we sent a couple ppl to the Olympics and it gets highlighted on the sports news occassionally.

It's really due to sponsorship in schools why badminton is now being seen as a real sport, like football, cricket and track (though nowhere the same level of prestige).

thats what i hate about the popularity of badminton in malaysia ...
since after olympic .. they make badminton as their social sport(other like football and etc) ...

Wahahaha ... the next day of olympic(LD vs LCW) ... my dad's office suddenly have badminton competiton and match ...

Ouh .. my dad say if lcw win everybody play badminton
but if lcw lose no more badminton
    That is 100% wrong liao!

After the olympic(here at malaysia) .. I can see everywhere people play badminton ... like Zabee say crowded with grown ups, youngsters, middle ages, families minus and etc ...

though Badminton might not reach the popularity like football but let's be realistic Malaysia football is at sorry state don't even think about Malaysia play in World Cup within the next 10-20 years (but laid some hope on younger genearations ) wherether they treat it as a social sports or what so ever it shows that Badminton is getting places among Malaysian..eventually it would good for our country , like football perhaps we can even send scouts & ceck out the young ones who knows maybe the next Lee C W / Wong M C migth be just played next to you...

    Thx for the support!
Its one of my ambition to be a badminton player(present malaysia/BAM) ...
But everytime I complete any form or anyone ask me what is my ambition .. I will write/say 'Sport Athlite' or other of my ambition

Really ashamed to put/say 'badminton player' since many people will tease me if i say that ...

    Badminton Players in Europe

I work for a small badminton related company in Japan, and was trying to figure out the market size of Badminton in European Countries. Because my lack of language skills is preventing me (google translate is helping a little, but not being my savior) from reading the information off the according badminton association sites.. If anyone knows the number of registered players for each country, and the amount of registered clubs/school, it would be greatly helpful.
