Ha ha.. You must be new then.. Shixian is the weakest in the 3 top chinese WS. Ratchanok is a strong player. She should come up with a solution to tackle the tactics with which shixian is playing. Shixian definitely came with a plan to tackle Ratchanok. Ratchanok could not win yihan or shixian in the recent tournaments.

I don't know if you saw the match or not, but it really was unbelievable - in the latter stages of the third game, WYH was literally not trying at all. Not that she tried much harder earlier, and again not to take anything away from Porntip, who seems to have had a fire lit up under her ever since Ratchanok's WC win.

Now that someone brought it up, I do wonder if Intanon lost to avoid Porntip and whether WYH lost to avoid WSX. I guess only the experts would know whether there would be any national/ranking advantages gained from those losses.

I think WYH got outplayed today and RI got outplayed today.
Even the best lose at times, no one wins everything.

The good thing is, its great that China no longer dominates the WS and the Thais are
having the nos to disturb China's strategy - as you all said, its unlike both RI and WYH to
    play so tamely ....

First, what you expressed about Intanon melting down in G2 is fair comment, a simple description of what most people watching the match would have thought - so I was kind of surprise some people over-reacted to it.

Second, I don't see any logic why WYH would not want to win out Porntip to get more SS ranking points. I'd attribute her loss to one of her mood swings or inconsistency that besets her of late.

Lastly, there is every reason for Intanon to win this match and ,better still, the title, not just towards SSF qualification as she is at No.10 in the SS Standing at the moment but also to regain her self-confidence and proper pride as the reigning world champion, esp after having been beaten twice already by two different players in one month. If she continues to lose to CHN players generally or WSX specifically, her self-confidence and inner belief will take a beating for which it will take a long time to recover, if at all.

I only consider the player outplayed if both have tried their best and the player in question still loses. There is no way on earth that WYH tried her best today, and I have seen enough of her matches to state that unequivocally. Again, and I am not exaggerating, WYH played the third game as if she wanted to lose it, and I saw enough of IR's match to see that she was not trying her best in the second game, too.

Oh, it's wonderful, no question. I'm hoping that Sung wins her match so that we can avoid more all China snoozefests.

A little ironic, but even though Mohd Ahsan/Hendra Setiawan crashed out in the first round, they become world no.1.

And it simply doesn't make sense to avoid having to play your compatriot in the semifinal by losing to a foreign player in the quarterfinal - the ranking point difference between QF and SF is considerable, you know. Isn't it much better to lose to your compatriot the next round and gain more points to boot? Sorry, I don't buy such a conspiracy theory.

In other words, WSX just outclassed Intanon R today better than what she did the previous time at the French Open. Whatever Intanon tried to do kept coming back and often with interest from WSX, so much so she was at a loss what to play and, as a result, made more mistakes as clearly evident in G2; that is it.

Frankly, at first I was half-hoping to see a LXR vs IR final but couldn't help wondering if IR could overcome both WSX and WYH before getting there.

Now that IR is out and WSX is in the ascendancy, I am beginning to long for a LXR vs WSX Final.

11-8 LYD/YYS. So far for the whole game LYD/YYS has 17 smash winnners and Kim2 has 25. For the set it's 3-5. Kim2 has a lot of "other" though...

Both CHN and THA are playing mind games to let their players play against the other. Maybe when WHY realized that WSX was leading RI by a huge margin and victory is close, she let it go.

Too bad,Han Li finished off Sung JH. Just as well, for I believe Sung won't relish the prospect of playing LXR the next round, nobody does.

Personally, I'd love to see LXR pitted against the best of the ROW every now and then, if only to keep her on her toes. If thanks to her capable colleagues, she is unwittingly forced to avoid playing the ROW top exponents, she might over time settle into her comfort zone and stop improving her game; that won't be good for her though it's not her fault.

You're right, how unfortunate! I'd eat my hat if Han beats Li tomorrow. It may even be fixed (that's always a worry when it's China vs. China) for Han has no hope of qualifying for the SS Finals whereas Li does, right? And I don't know how anyone could hope for a WSX/LXR final - WSX simply does not have the game to beat Li, and Li will win if the match isn't fixed.

I've seen enough matches where it is common for tight first and then the winner takes the second game in free flow. Badminton is a funny games where big swings occur. A player only has to take two runs of four to five points to open up a commanding (and psychological) lead. For WSX vs RI, you can see there was a run of seven points to WSX. I reckon that practically sealed the match for WSX.

Sorry, I don't quite agree with you. For me, LXR is still the true world No.1, the best WS player, so I won't expect anyone including any of her teammates to beat her.

Furthermore, the SSF isn't such an important tournament to CHN (which is why Lin Dan only played in one which he emerged champion, btw) to have to resort to any of those strategic moves.

As for WSX, I'd like to humbly urge you to make it a point to watch carefully how she beat Intanon previously at the French Open and today's match as well, if only to convince yourself of WSX's prowess now; she is certainly a transformed player. You might like to know that in between the two sensational victories, WSX also bested IR at the CBSL in two straight sets albeit that match was based on the 11-point scoring system.

However, should LXR vs WSX Final come about which I thought is very likely, my bet is on LXR to be triumphant.

I saw that match, and I don't see any remarkable transformation from Wang Shixian. She still lacks power, she smashes a bit more often than she did in the past but the smashes often don't penetrate, and she is still too prone to drop, drop, drop - she still has a very predictable style of play. Judging from their head to head which goes way back, this style of play obviously does not suit Ratchanok, and IMO that is why WSX is continuing to beat IR rather than due to any great transformation on Wang's part.

Also, the more you lose to someone the more likely that pattern starts to stick and a psychological block develops.

Ratchanok still played better at that French Open than she did in the second game today, when it was so clear that a defeatist attitude had set in after she had narrowly lost the first game.
