i believe Hendrawan deserve the title. so does Gade, actually, but unfortunately, there can only be one winner.

this will be a nice present for Hendrawan if he retires.

    Re: HENDRAWAN/Gade and HK

The HK singles players only lost to the finalists. That's not bad at all.

Y'know, now that you mentioned, I haven't heard Hendrawan shout like that before. Maybe Hm was right... oh whatever, he said he wanted to give the Olympic gold to his wife. Now he can give her the World C'ship gold... *smile*

    Comparing... grunts???

In the name of brainless fun...

Tony G: Very powerful YAH that seems to be expirated from the bottom of his lungs.

Yoo YS: Wifebeater's grunt. No elaboration needed.

Peter-Gade: Equipped with fist clenching, pumping action. Typical "C'mon, Man! You can do it!" grunt.

    Re: Comparing... grunts???

Uh-oh. May is starting to view recreational activities with the same level of seriousness as her school work, at only age 12. Quick, call out the humor rescue team. We need to force feed her some Three Stooges or Jackie Chan movies.

    :)

    Re: Comparing... grunts???

Do badminton tournament referees issue warnings for excessive grunts? Would Monica Seles and Gustavo Kuerten be able to get away with their ridiculous grunting in badminton? I can't believe the ATP and the WTA have not done something about them years ago. Kuerten's "NNNNNNEEEEEEEEEEOOOOOOOOOAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHH!" grunt is so unnatural sounding that there is no possible way that he does that for any reason other than to annoy and distract opponents.

    Re: Comparing... grunts???

i believe grunts are allowed at the moment you are hitting the shuttle. in other words, you are not allowed to make any noise when your opponent is hitting.

i think that is reasonable. and i haven't seen (erm.. heard) anything too outrageous yet.

in badminton singles, as almost all shots are off the base (center of court), most of the energy would be used in just getting to the shuttle, grunting too much or loudly will have detrimental effect. also, the movement is much faster in badminton than tennis, there would be no time for a long grunt.

IMHO, Hendrawan's must be the most disturbing grunt i have heard in the badminton court.
