The women’s doubles and mixed doubles events at the Korea Open Badminton Championships 2022 have been redrawn.

A number of withdrawals in both events left each draw severely imbalanced, with BWF and the tournament referee agreeing to conduct redraws.

Member Associations withdrew their players and pairs citing COVID-19, travel, and injury-related reasons. Both events did not have reserves to be promoted.

    ________

    • WD redraw using small draw size, only comprises of nine pairs, the unprecedented circumstance in S500++ of BWF World tour
    • On kick-off day, top-seed Anthony Gintining crashed out prematurely, unstoppable errors frustrated him throughout the match, he can lose to any player if his grotesque form still intact, worrying sign towards Thomas Cup next month.
    • The lesser known Chinese player for most badminton fans, Weng Hongyang smashes all the way to power past home favourite Heo Kwang Hee who has't found yet the formula to neutralize the quick and offensive player.
    • Lakshya Sen had to dig deep due to unfamiliarity to overcome opening round hurdle, the unheralded local player Choi Ji Hoon who has good footwork and resilience.

LS was tensed, and may be was finding difficulty with the playing conditions. But the Korean youngster played with a true challenger spirit. It made things hard for LS. Being a seeded player, he is going to see a lot of this in the opening rounds of tournaments going forward

I realised that after covid, due to long hiatus and possible to gather more points for ranking, even smaller tournaments see more players joining. This trend however, is now disrupted due to higg number of cases

Li Shifeng lost to 33 years old Misha Zilberman isn't an upset based on their current world ranking but it's something surprise to witness a minnow to beat one of badminton powerhouse players. Li is touted as China best hopeful in next generation squad towards Paris 2024 project. The Israeli veteran characteristic of play resembles to Guatemalan sensation Kevin Cordon, high spirited fast game and being pro active to attack or intercept at front area.

WS opening round highlight, the gritty Wang Zhiyi turned the tables, trailing badly in deciding games, her solid fighting spirit and determination brought her into second round. Katethong blew away her chance regarding Wang condition, heavily strapped on right knee, struggling footwork, uncomfortable movement, the Thai player should won this match if she injected the pace instead of playing long rallies. Several last points displayed Kathethong jumped smashes desperately to break Wang strong defense but it didn't work. Yesterday, another Chinese player, Han Yue stunned by IND youngster Malvika Bansod, an encouraging result for IND WS.

I watched Misha Zilberman's match. He played a very postive game. Li Shifeng kept pushing shuttle to Misha's round the head corner with high clears. He has been doing the whole match. That didn't work at all. Rather changing to different tactics, he sticked to the same strategy throughout the match and lost. On the other hand, Misha played very aggresively without giving his chinese opponent any chance to come back. Interestingly , still his mother is coaching him.
