I searched for this topic and unable to find it... I have always wondered if the women's players performance are affected by their menstrual monthly cycle in tournaments? especially when it come to Super Series. It seems that it does to some players and not that much for others... this may be a sensitive subject.. but I know women go through PMS and stuff.. any Medical Doctors in the house that could offer some opinion?
Perhaps some women BCers would care to make some comments? C'mon, we are looking at this from medical point of view... and strickly for scientific use...
Out of topic Just wondering why you want to know since you're not suffering from it Maybe your XD partner failed to deliver on your match one too many times
Just wait till you got married. See how good do you play when your wife is in middle of her PMS right before your match.
Great GrandMaster SH, Please help us single guy before we are tied up, period!!! :crying::crying::crying:
For some international atheletes, the cycle is affected - some may not even have the monthly cycle. Wether performance is affected...hmm. Well, it goes to say since pain is a feature of the cycle, for some women, this may adversely affect performance. If they suffer from endometriosis, it could be even worse. Again, humans are not ubiquitious in their responses. There is going to be a range from not affected at all to needing to withdraw.
Since you're not tied up yet. Needn't worry about PMS, that will come many years after diaper changes and sleepless night. See how babies will affect your back and game
Wer'e Just Lucky !! We are lucky to be a man.Just imagine if a man got menstruation period, I think there will be more last minute tournament withdrawal ,Lin Dan, Taufik & etc….etc…..
Of course another very important thing stopping the cycles but pregnancy. That will definitely precipitate a withdrawal as has happened with a recent female world championship medallist.
Well, well, looks like you guys are busy commenting on interesting issues, RLOL. Temasek, nahhh, I may not be an althete, but gals are made of sterner stuff, used to it mah, so no prob. Cheung is in medical line, would know better. To be fair, for some with prob in uterus or some other related prob, the cycle can be very painful - cannot get up from bed. For others, just feel a bit weak, range from no pain to some pain - injury also have pain, they can carry on, this one also can. Normal-lah, all part & parcel of life. If not, no need to work already loh. If you guys get the same thing, ha ha, will be complaining like crazy. I know this from a male friend who was bleeding for a week or so due to medical illness (he recovered, thankfully). He felt weak all the time, like fainting, was wondering how we females can withstand it. Oh yeah, Cheung, I understand that there are certain drugs althetics take to delay the cycle, esp gymanastics. That is also another option.
As a female player I can only comment on how I am affected by my hormones. It affects my mood and my attitude. I can sometimes find it harder to be positive at certain times of the month, which in turn must have an impact on my games - although its hard for me to really tell as its so difficult to quantify. I don't think it affects physical aspects such as speed, or strength. I think a lot of women find that they are more pain sensitive during their period. The other thing I notice is that diet has a fairly major impact. In that if I eat well, lots of fresh fruit and veg etc, my mood is much more even throughout the month, if any change at all. Do I have a problem with PMS? Not at all, but my husband sometimes does.
