Hi Jonas, I was just wondering how fit a professional athelete must be to play badminton at an international level? Because looking at players running, jumping, smashing, and diving in badminton really blows my mind; they're extremely fast from the start of the game to the end. I was wondering if you have any statistics (e.g. 9 minutes for 2km run) to let us have an idea? Thanks in advance! Yuanruo
In Australia to make the National team you must run at least a 13 in the beep test/shuttle run for men, and an 11 for women, other countries will be different.
Yeah, You place 2 objects about 20 metres apart not sure . Then play some tape and the dude goes 1.1 1.2 1.3...up to 1.11. When the beep goes you run to the other end before it beeps again, he says another number and you run back. When you start a new level e.g. from 1 to 2, the break time is shorter, and the time you get to run between the markers is shortened. It's quite easy to get over 10 and one guy in the U/17 state team managed to get 13+.
Level12 is 2km, so it's not that much in distance but as the level goes up, we'll have to run faster. However, many people even at the age of 13 manage to get atleast level 12 or 13. For badminton players, I think that the shuttlerun/beep test should be done with side-steps instead of jogging->sprinting, to improve footwork.
With all the running... And the tiring smashes, clears, etc. I think their fitness has to be great. And answering your title, I consider myself pretty fit.
about how big is your gym? in meters? ares is a little over 4 badminton courts sides ways and last time I did the beep test in gym i got 12.0 hehe i wonder if we use the same beep test because i know sometimes the timing is different and also the distance your running back and forth makes a difference too.
Ooo..that's a strong heart. So far my rest condition is 60 beats/minute. Jogging is..not sure..never measured.
actually, mine is not that good........ rest = 60 exercise = 90 if an athletic good in fitness, it shall be; exercise = 60
?60 when ur actually playing badminton? so r u playing proper matches?or r u teaching children?cuz if ur playing properly and playing a real match ur heart rate shud be at least 80 as ur heart rate goes up no matter how high ur fitness. and its not a competition of low heart rate....fitness is measured by the time it takes for u heart to get from post excercise rate to rest heart rate. with the amount of aerobic and anaerobic respiration u need in badminton theres no way u cud have heart rate of under 100 during badminton. a tough game shud have ur heart rate well over 100 up to even 180 near ur max heart rate. during a match i level out at about 160heart rate. altho iv seen it go up to 175-80 in a test before....this was cuz it was a tough match and i was also nervous as it was an important point. didnt measure recovery rate though. but generally u do excercise then take heart rate straight away. then wait 2 mins and take agen. that difference in figure is your recovery heart rate. u shud notice that this number can be increased and u can recover faster the fitter u get.
the higher the heart rate is, you will be getting more tired easily........ i am lazy to read all.... en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Heart_rate
Resting heart rate at about 55 beats/min at 16 years old. I can't really say if I'm fit or not because I get really tired during endurance runs( I do 2K in about 8:20 which is not that good). Don't know why even though I have a 'supposedly' good heart.
indeed, but u need to understand what ur wikii-ng!lol u need to increase heart rate to facilitate effective respiration, its true if u have an effective and fit heart the volume of blood ur heart can pump is one beat is increased, but still for an effective workout, u will have a rapidly raised heart rate during a 'competitive' match. and ur fitness is measured by how ur body controls and regulates that heart rate....and how quickly it recovers.
I know a famous coach whose heart rate remains the same at rest and play That's because heart-rates are for people with a heart
The highest I've ever gone ni the beep test is 13.4 but I have a friend who trained in Saarbruken and got to 16.2. Our training group in Calgary requires at least a 12 for guys.
