No where have you commented on what the racquet has done to your partner. If he is playing the same or better, leave it alone. Its his choice and since its not making the team worse, you really cant' say anything. If he is play worse, keep note, and if it persists after a couple week, slowly encourage him to change the string/racquet. I am a believe that all equipment are tools for a player to make his mark. I believe my partner just bought a new racquet. I believe in my partner, and have faith in him, so I trust that he made a good choice. Have faith in your partner.
IMO the AT500 is a great all-round racket - its not that head heavy, and not too stiff either. So in terms of racket choice - I think its an excellent one. It's more likely that your partners technique, fitness, attitude, etc. will have far more impact on his game than a racket. Just accept his choice, and don't worry about it.
Just like what others said, it really doesnt matter what ur partner chooses, as it is up to him. If he's made the wrong choice, he'll know it, and he'll fix it. My partner is planning on buying more new rackets(AT900, NS9K, etc), and as much as I disagree on his view on those new rackets, I cant say hes made a bad decision. Seriously, playing with a top-end-properly-strung-fits-his-strength racket makes little difference compare to playing with a $10-18lb strung-not-fits-his-strength racket. Its how u play, not what u play with.
Obnoxious Gi Paritos, Of course there is a corelation between a player's equipment n his game. However, this is quite subjective and the equipment must suit his style of play. U would not know whether the racket is suitable or not until u really play with it for some times. That is why people sell their rackets when they find it not suitable or they find a better alternative or they want to try new stuff. Why give yr partner some time......and see how things go. Partner.
Finding the right racket is quite tricky sometimes, and will take a while. Furthermore, their playing style and capabilities will change, as will their tastes and feeling for rackets. So, be patient and work hard. That's pretty much the best you can put forth.
Have you even seen how really skinny top badminton players are? And in doubles, touch is more important than power play. You've pretty much answered the question yourself, he is accurate and he wants an accurate racket.
As much as I know that you're concerned about all of this...I'd have to say, just back off a bit; your partner should be picking what HE wants; you have no say, or anything when it comes to what he wants to use to play badminton. Just back off when it comes to what happens to him; I mean, what you're doing right now is pretty much saying that your partner doesn't know how to make good choices.
His game was better with his old one and some people are just assuming he made a good choice because it is a Yonex expensive racket
Many of our BC members have answered with some good points/ideas/suggestions Hey Paritos, You have asked a question... and I thought many of our BC members have answered with some good points/ideas/suggestions. But you are not listening. It appears that you have already made up your mind that your partner's choice of racket is definitely OBNOXIOUS !!! What we are saying is "If your partner feels good with with his new racket, then that is the racket for him". If he doesn't, don't be surprised he would buy another racket. He doesn't need anyone to tell him what should be the best racket for him. Cheers... chris@ccc ***
Of course it aint ur business, as it is ur partner's choice, not urs. Also, if ur partner lacks the physical power to execute a powerful smash, using a different racket will only show marginal increaments. As for clears, u dont need to be strong to clear well(i know i'm nowhere close to having "adequete" strength, but I can clear well). U gotta chill and let ur partner decide for himself.
I have the right to express a question if I wish, as it is in proper terms. As for the <<chill>> part, I can tell the same thing about you. If you don't like this question/opinion, you don't have to post over it.
It's your use of the word "obnoxious". Meanings: 1. highly objectionable or offensive; odious: obnoxious behavior. 2. annoying or objectionable due to being a showoff or attracting undue attention to oneself: an obnoxious little brat. from dictionary.com
