As I wrote in old "resume" that we will unhappy if a lot of big pointers still in around when lead the game.
Some "upsets" from Li Wen Yan, Sukmawan/Suryatama, Kurniawan/Wijaya, Pedersen/Bonde and Wu Yunyong have worked in final stage, forced the leader in early round stork falled to 5th placed.

The best performance in this week is huangkwokhau, played smartly from early round and secured the tittle in Semi Final with 2 PAWs left in hand. Good Job !!

Two Top-5 players, djake & Sandy followed to take in 2nd and 3rd position. The Ranking points earned isn't important for them now, but will be important when "drop off season" come. Next year competition will be tougher, it will be hard just only to reach top-10. Congratulations !!

Thank you for all PAW players and see you again Danish Open 2007 :) :)

I'm back at the office after the weekend to find Rudy at the top of the Champions table! Congrats Rudy, you deserved it after all the hard work at Macau, but it was a close fight for the top three places. :)

I was also sad to discover that Li Wenyan did not give me 20 points in the QF because her opponent Yao Jie gave her a walkover. And I was counting on Yao and Meulendijks to score me another 27 points against Vislova and Sorkina (Russia), but they also had to give a walkover, I think on account of Yao, who must be injured.

So in the end, I was not around to salvage the above two PAWs and only 28, out of 30, were taken into account for my final count. :(

But I won a satay treat from X Ball when Roslin Hashim (5) lost to qualifier Wu Yunyong in 3 games, the final game, quite badly when Roslin earned only 10 points. So Roslin did not win the Dutch Open, neither did another Malaysian seeded above him, Lee Tsuen Seng (2) who lost to our very own Singaporean, Kendrick Lee (4) in straight games, 16-21, 19-21 in the SF.

Kendrick went on to take the Dutch crown when he beat Polish sensation, Przemyslaw Wacha (1) 20-22, 21-11, 21-18 in the final. It has been a long time that Kendrick has won a major title, the last being the US Open. This is surely a great confidence booster for him and prove to his detractors that he is no pushover. Even Roslin was not good enough to meet Kendrick in the final! :)

No, I submitted 30 PAWs before I stopped at the QF stage for the weekend (since I will not have internet access on Sat and Sun).

But the no-show of Yao Jie for two matches, WS (20 points) and WD (27 points) meant that I had to forfeit them and getting no points for walkovers, I think. The first time I encountered this.

Maybe Sam will be behind me if the above PAWs were not forfeited! :D

    Perfect English! :D

"I think Loh have 2 more paws...."

But what is wrong with the above? A very common and careless error.

Haha....our Sammie boy is prone to day-dreaming and hence making trivial typo and grammatical errors.

Remember he wrote "Andre Kurniawan" as "Andrea"

    Ah...

..finally, Hau-ge has put his mark in this PAW game!! The monkey's off you back!! Good job!!:D:cool: I guess, the bull's-eye mark will transfer from Loh's back to your back now in the upcoming Denmark Open..hehe;)..Knock on wood, though, you won't suffer a big drop-off this week..:p:D;)
..hmm, any way(s) for Sandy to possibly solve this issue?? Esp. for one who will be out for the weekend but unknowingly had chosen a few unforeseen W/O matches??..:cool:

Sandy could you please clarify this issue. I feel forfeiting a PAW because of a walkoever in totally unfair.

I'm not sure how the Alternative PAWs actually work. I thought that if a situation should arise, such as when the event has to be played twice in a day, eg. MS Round 2 in the morning and Round 3 in the evening, and the winner for R2 could not be determined yet, therefore an option (alternative PAW) is given for each of the two players should they advance to R3.

Or because of the different time zones (say the tournament is held in the Americas, Europe or Asia) making the reporting of results too late for practical purposes in another continent, then the alternative PAW is also used to ensure that the PAW game can continue uninterrupted.

In my case, I picked Li Wenyan to beat Yao Jie (20 - 5) in the QF. Unfortunately Yao gave a walkover and it seems Sandy forfeited my PAW and I wasn't aware of it until after the tournament. Now, in the badminton rules, once a walkover has been given and accepted, the opponent scores a win and advances to the next round. If Sandy has applied this rule, then I would have scored another 20 points. Of course we all know that Li did better and went on to win the WS by defeating Judith Meulendijks 21-18, 21-19 in the final.

My contention is this. We should apply BWF rules on walkovers, i.e. a win to the opponent. In my case, Li won on a walkover given by Yao and I should score 20 points on my PAW instead of zero.

I do not know why Yao gave the walkover. It could be because she was injured or unfit to continue for the rest of the tournament. If that was the case, even if she had played against Li in that QF, Yao would most certainly have lost!

The possibility that Yao could have given the match to Li did not arise as they are both representing differently countries and the prize money is part of their earnings as a professional.

Yao also did not show up in her WD event with Judith. I had picked them to win over the Russians, Vislova and Sorokina, but because they had given the walkover, I had to bear with the loss of 27 points. :(

With an addition of 20 points (from Li's walkover win) to my score, I could have beaten Samuel! ;)

But to be forfeited for both PAWs with no points won, this is unbearable! :crying:

Top man. Do we pay a price for winning ?;) Or is there a prize, which I didn't think there was.

Congrats to the winner, Huangkwokhau. The competition is getting more and more intense nowadays. Sometimes, there are difficult desicions to make in the game, torn between supporting our favourite players or following our brain..

You're right, there is no prize for winning the PAW game in the material sense like prize money, not unless Sandy finds a sponsor! :D

But the intangible prize for winning the PAWs is unmeasurable, the personal satisfaction of winning and being acknowledged as the best, the adulations and congratulations that the winner receives, etc, etc. :p

As to the price, our Hau-ge has to travel to Macau for its Open and to sms the results to BC PAWers to keep everyone in the know as there is no livescores. But this makes it all the more interesting and it intensified personal relationships among BFers and created greater camaradarie. ;)

I allways post the Projection Scoring Points for 2 round matches in a day. You didn't need to wait the earlier round results to post your "next" round PAWs(s).
If the "next round" match(es) your pick(s) won't played, you can replace it(s)with the others.

In my PAW introduction I have posted that W/O results, wasn't counted in calculation and have to be changed with other match(es). This case didn't follow BWF rules (also ATP or WTA). Sometime some people have closed information into the tournament and knew earlier that one player W/O and easily pick/bet the opponent will win. It was unfair they got free points without any playing.

The problem in this case is you didn't post the replacement PAWs in Semi Final or Final day. You can post the alternate PAWs in final day you can be online or just post blank number your PAWs so I will change your invalid W/O PAWs with the new ones.
