There must be a story to tell. Does anybody know if Zhang Ning is injured or in poor shape or something?

Why does she have to be in poor shape or injury to be beaten?

She's just past her prime but she's done well for her age. Bending all over the court would be a nightmare for her now.

    i couldn't agree less ...

everyone has their off days, and tine's on a tremendous run, beating both xu huaiwen and jiang yanjiao, so she's no pushover.

even li yongbo once said that tine rasmussen is a good player.
it was during china open when tine rasmussen managed to take 1 set from xxf, but lost eventually.

i've watched her play once during the singapore open and she TRASHED wong mew choo. she is tall and is able to cover the court well, compared to wmc who is shorter and smaller.

    no surprises. she's PRO. :D

It's not easy for ZN to keep herself as world #1 at the age of 30 plus. Even Roger Federer gets beaten once in a while. No big deal.

Btw, "thrashed" is the correct spelling.

I think Zhang Ning is just showing her age. She's like rank #1 or #2 for the past 3 or 4 years. It's tough for a women of her age, or maybe she's feeling the need to start a family. I think she'll call it quit after the Olympics.

Look like drift has been serious problem in a lot of major tournments. Just like XXF hitting so many birds just a few inches out against WMC in WC. Most of these stadiums are built mainly for badminton and they can't think of any solutions? It's sad that some players lost just because of the environmental factors.

Yes, very unfortunately drift become such a major problem and yet not much is done about it. I recall World Championship 2005 in Anaheim, the bird flied like "banana kick"(soccer term) when lifted :crying: If badminton seriously going to be main stream as one of the major sports, this problem has to be addressed and taken care of.

Yeah... and maybe being married has something to do with her decline in form? Haha, maybe that applies more to men. :D

She's still one of my favourite players though.

Sorry, I don't mean to discredit Tine's win;in fact I'm delighted for her.Let's put it this way to indicate the future.
Tine's beginning of her best beats ZN's beginning of her worst. I don't think ZN can make it good for OG08 in CHN.No disrespect meant but indicating some reality.

i recalled that i've read somewhere that ZN said that getting a medal in OG 2008 would be a huge achievement already.
