What is so bad about upsets? I think thats what keeps the tournament going. Otherwise we can just simulate each match on paper and emerge with top seed as the winner. And I don't think any of the upsets were due to bad luck or anything. Just that one who played best badminton won.
Aside from all the things talked about this WC upsets, i think overall it is a positive reflection for badminton, globally. It shows that efforts made to date from unknown or weak countries like poland, inida, russia, japan, are showing tangible sign of progress. Hopefully come 2012, more prominent players from those nonpower house countries give support that badminton is truly an international sports and IOC has no more reasons to even think about removing badminton from the OG.
nod. I didn't left out vietnam intentionally. I just forgot about it. I also forgot Boonsak of thailand. More reasons why badminton's future is pretty bright.
i think who ranked in 2nd in this WC was bad luck.. see,LCW and XXF. both of them suppose to win the game and they just lose so easy to the opponent-2 set and get really low point(no fight).. to what i see, they lose 'cos of they cant find the rythem to play, cant put themself into the game... anyway!! ahmithofu
i just realise tat ur nickname almost spell as mine GIDONG... urs is start wif Q instead of G ... gve me 5 bro !!!
KKK/TBL, Nova/Butet, GL/HS better watch out for this curse then. I can see Nova/Butet succumbing to it today.
Remember a couple of years ago the BWF (or IBF as it was known then) opened 5 training centres around the world and invited players from lesser badminton nations to train there? I think this has turned out to be a great move on their part. If this continues we should see in the next 5 years players from even more obscure countries emerging on the international scene. That's not to say they would be competitive at the highest level but at least the exposure would create a better badminton environment in their respective countries. Every country needs sports idols for their youth to emulate. That's one way the interest in a sport can grow. I sure hope the likes of Wacha and their very good doubles players can turn Poland into an European, and eventually a world force. Petya Nedelcheva (sp?) can be a lightning rod for badminton in Bulgaria. She stands alone as the most accomplished player that nation has ever produced. Again, I hope it provides the impetus for Bulgaria to embrace badminton.
AS beat Hafiz also.. It is one of biggest surprise in tournament.. He can beat Malaysian in their home ground, and SDK also beat LCW.. LCW is well known as "home-player", plays v well in Malaysia Open
yes, that is an upset too 1. WM Choo Choo beating #2 seed XXF in 2 sets 2. Sony DK beating #2 seed LCW in 2 sets 3. Anup S. beating ex-Olympic champ TH in 3 sets 4. Durkin/Nikolaenko beat ex WC champ Paaske/Rasmussen in 2 sets 5. Mateusiak/Kostiuczyk beating china He/Yu in 3 sets, even the lowly poles can draw blood from china 6. Anup S. beating H. Hafiz in 3 sets, both are tall players 7. Sakamoto/Ikeda beating INA Alvent/Luluk in 3 sets
