This is a little off topic, and this is not to defend LD lost to LCW. But do you guys think that China over played LD? I mean was it necessary to play LD when they're playing against England or Thailand. They took BCL and CJ and they have yet get to played. I don't know what's China thinking, why take them along if they're just going to be bench warmers.

LYB, for whatever reason, (ego, arrogance) has always says that he will field the best players on all ties, regardless of the opponent's strength. so that's what he did, he has always fielded what he thought was the best player that day. there are some variations between ZN and XXF as ZN is reported to have an injury so XXF stepped in one day. and WD he just mix and match as he wish as they are all as strong anyway. good time to experiment with new pairings.

at least he kept to his words. haha. ;)

mind you, that is actually not a bad thing, if everyone do that instead of playing team tactics like THA did for the THA-CHN tie, we will see more exciting and closely fought match.

well, it is just pent up frustration releasing from the LCW fans since LCW was more or less mediocre in 2006. I'm glad LD lost because he might get back his motiviation to win. Remember that LD is just back from an injury rest, why yourself push to the limit, plus china takes 4-0 anyway. If lcw fans can't tell which one of LD or LCW is superior, just count the number of titles each have, this will clear up their confusion.

Seems Lin Dan was just enjoying the game, giving LCW a good game, much like a sparing partner. LCW would have a higher confidence going in against Denmark's Peter Gade.

Bottom line, we are fan and have ups and downs just like the players :D I don't see anything wrong about disagreement and faithful to your believe about which players are the best as along as we don't do personal attack. Heck, this is the chat room and if we all agree on everything then what to chat about?
Is all Kwun's fault, creating this place for us to dis-agree :D

i totally agree with you...
LD was not relaxed at all...he shook his head, he slowly hit his head with his racquet, he even stressed out...and by the way...LD is currently world no.1 player...wouldn't it be a shame that china only won 4-1 instead of 5-0, and that all of CHN other players won, but not LD...?so LD did take the match seriously..

but hey, LCW played greatly well...

and LCW won because he deserves to won, not because LD was being playful or undetermined...

although MAS lost, but MAS is the first team that manages to break the CHN's record of 5-0 win...and MAS one point is from beating CHN no.1 player...

that's GOOD enough...
as i said, in order to make LYB eats his words, all MAS got to do is to snatch one point by defeating one of his top players...and by beating LD, i'm sure somehow it affected LYB... :D

lol, go ahead and gloat while the sun is shining. Until lcw wins a top title in WC, OG, or AE, u still can't compare him to LD, TH or PG.

This is not to take away LCW's achievement so far but it is normal to have players to beat LD in certain days of the year. If u gloat too much, it will backfire on u LCW fans. Just look at kkk/tbn, they were considered legendary, a new era for MAL but after doing some homework, FHF/CaiY can quash them like....

Ahem....I kind of expected LD to lose when I saw the order of play that Kwun posted. It was important that Chn snatches the 1st three matches and they did that. I don't expect the WD to lose because it would be too obvious. So maybe Chn was doing Mas a favour because if Tha beat England, Mas would be through to the semi. No jest joking. Okay LCW played better than LD yesterday & deserves that victory!! But that is not to say that LD is doomed in the days to come.

i agree...
i'm a reasonable fan...
LCW played better than LD yesterday...(and i strongly believe that LD being a professional player he is, has played determinely as well...not just for the sake of playing...coz 21-17 showed a hell off a fight)
but..yup....
that doesn't mean LD is doomed in the days to come...
everything is still too early too tell...
:D peace...

lets see if we can see another lcw-ld matches after this.... ;)

ur wrong, LD is a professional soldier in the big red army of china except that LD specialized in badminton skills. china house, train and feed LD. China keep ~1/2 of LD winnings. LD is told who to play, when to play, and where to play. Hardly a professional status player. Federer and tiger wood are professinals. Check out the differences.

I hope u don't teach 'ya, whatever' skills and knowledges to your pupils LOL

looks like we're seeing things in a very different perspective, here...

the word 'professional' can means a lot, dude...in terms of syntax, semantics and pragmatics...

'professional' here refers to him not taking the game easily although his team has already won 4-0...it also refers to him still trying to play a good game and win another point for his country...it means...he is a player who plays not only for country but for personal pride...him and LCW...if they are not being professional, the match won't even be executed cause whoever wins, still the victory belongs to CHN...that's what i meant...

but thanks for the info...although...seriously, i know the difference...

and by the way, it is FUNNY to see how you are disturbed by my 'ya, whatever' phrase...

:D peace

What a turnaround ! MAS is now ahead in Men's singles and down in men's doubles. It goes to show that we can never be sure what can happen at any time. This game is not dominated by any country.

But currently, LCW is the champ. As long as he stays fit, the WC is within reach. LCW has really improved out of sight after going back to Misbun, no two ways about it.

let me clarify, LD is a professional soldier, not a professional player. In sudirman cup, LD is playing for his country standing, his personal prides are represented by all his hardwares already. What good it do for his country (china) if LD go all out and risk injury over 'nothing'?

i'm not disturbed, your 'whatever' is just a cope out statement. It reflect upon u more so than me. So, I'm not disturbed at all.

Super Dan" is not superman, says Chinese head coach(Xinhua)
Updated: 2007-06-15 08:21

Chinese head coach Li Yongbo said that he had no worries for world number one Lin Dan, who missed a point in China's 4-1 win over Malaysia at badminton Sudirman Cup on Thursday.

Holders China, who already advanced into semifinals on the strength of 5-0 thrashing of Thailand and England, had been expected to present another whitewash in their final Group A match against Malaysia, but Asian champion Lee Chong Wei surprised Lin 21-17, 21-17 in the final game of men's singles.

It was the first time since the 2003 final that China had not won a Sudirman Cup match 5-0.

"Don't think of him as a superman," Li said of the 23-year-old, known as "Super Dan" for his talents.

"Since we have qualified for the semifinals and already won the match with four points in hand, Lin might feel relaxed and it's not necessary for him to win his game."

"It's not saying he didn't take the game seriously. He just didn't play his best. He's not a superman."

However, the Chinese leading shuttler did not utter a word after his defeat and walked directly into the changing room through a batch of Chinese reporters who wanted to interview him.

Lin has been a frequent visitor to the top of the world rankings but tended to have under-par performance in major events.

He suffered a shock opening round exit in the Athens Olympic Games in 2004 and the 2005 world championships final became a nightmare as he was routed 3-15, 7-15 by arch rival Taufik Hidayak of Indonesia.

"Lee is better prepared than Lin. He wanted to prove himself and kind of changed his game. The defeat is a good thing to Lin and he will learn from it," Li said.

"Looking to the semifinals, I might make minor changes to our lineup because of injury and fitness. But definitely I still have confidence in Lin. He has been steady in team competition."

China, who will meet South Korea in Saturday's semifinals, are hot favorites to retain the title and Li was confident to win their sixth Sudirman Cup.

"It would be the breaking news if China could not win the tournament," he said.

To all the fans out there, hope Li YB's statements can answer some of your queries.
