The City of Denmark Open 2006 was Aarhus.

At the very heart of Denmark lies Odense, birthplace of Hans Christian Andersen and Denmark's third-largest city - the fairy-tale capital of Funen, home of 200,000 people and with a history stretching back over 1000 years.

Odense is a top cultural city, with a wide range of exciting museums and attractions: The Hans Christian Andersen Museum, with rare, unique editions of the author's fairy-tales, private letters, notes and personal effects.

Odense is a vibrant modern city with a host of events - especially in the summer including music, theatre and street entertainment for young and old everywhere - normally free of charge.

Egeskov water-castle is situated about 25 km south of Odense.

    Hans Christian-Andersen:
The famous fairytale author was born in Odense and lived here during his childhood. Afterwards, he moved to Copenhagen, the capital of Denmark.

There is an old quarter of Odense, where you will find these lovely small houses and the cobble-stones and of course plenty of souvenir-shops.

Just follow the busloads of tourists in order to see the old houses.

Many of these houses simply seem to be too small for ordinary people - and it seems to be some sort of a decoration for Andersen's fairy-tales, but it simply was the size of the houses of wealthy people in ancient times.

    Casino Odense:
The local Casino in Odense is one of the six licenced casinos in Denmark, Its operated by Casino Austria international.
The atmosphere is relaxed and many of the guests are regulars who know the dealers.

    Lounge café Envy:
This Café is located in "Brandts Passage" and is one of Odenses Newest Cafés. It has a unique (By Odense standards) atmosphere with a minimalistic and real lounge feel about it.
The menu contains a lot of tapas, however most people just drop in for a caffe latte, or a beer.

    CaféBiografen:
Cafebiografen means Cafecinema, and this is exactly what is so special about this place. Here you can come in for a cup of coffee, a beer or just to see a movie.
The movies being shown here are generally of a more artistic cut, meaning that they are not being shown in Biocity (the grand cinema complex).

    Odense Banegård Center (OBC):
OBC is the transportation hub for Odense. All city busses, regional busses, and trains in Odense stop at the center.
On the first floor you will find the central library in Odense, on the second floor there is a small shopping mall and on the third floor there is a big cinema complex (the biggest in Odense).

    Vintapperstræde:
This narrow passage connects Vestergade with Slotsgade, and several other passages that intersect Vintapperstæde make it possible to use the passage as a shortcut between Vestergade and Kongensgade and other parts of the city center.
The passage is filled with restaurants, bars, hairdressers etc.

    The swamp:
When the inhabitants of Odense need recreation and a bit of nature experience there are to interlated parks along the Odense Å river near the city centre. One of these parks is Mosen wich means the swamp.
The park is partly surrounded by the river, and completely surrounded by the city. I the springtime there is a lot of activity in the park. The season starts of with 1 may international workers day celebrations. During june there are several arrangements for all the young people that graduate from various schools.
A part from these major events where Mosen is filled with people it is also well visited on every sunny, or partly sunny day in the summer period.

Sct. Canute cathedral or Odense Domkirke as it is also called is the oldest and biggest church i Odense. The present building stood finish in 1499 approximately 200 years after work on it was initiated.
The cathedral is mainly buid in gothic style. One of the curiousities of the cathedral is the crypt containing the remains of sct. Canute (sankt Knud), especially because crypts are usually a characteristic of roman style churches.

    Brandts Plads:
This plaza is surrounded by some of the major cultural institutions of Odense including Brandts Klædefabrik museum of art, Danish foto museum, and Odense music liberary.
There are numerous passages leading to the plaza that is located at the hub of what can be called the latin quarters of odense.

    Brandts Passage:
This passage leads from Vestergade to Brandts plads. Located within are several restaurants, cafe's and the A-bar night club. Also the musicvenue of Magasinet and a dancestudio are located in the passage.

Hahahahaha.. yeah only one week! If he really can't stand it, he can go to Copenhagen (only two hours by train from Odense..), there's Indo restaurants..

One funny thing.. Alvent mentioned Tivoli which is an amusement park in Copenhagen (the place where I had dinner with CHN/MAS/INA during CPH Masters 2006).. So here goes part of our convo:

yannie: tivoli very nice ha, so did u try all the things?
alvent: no, last time weather is bad
yannie: next time u try ok, can jump down from a tower.. 50 meters! ***
    alvent: no thanks, haha
yannie: u must.. kill.. if u're afraid, u and luluk jump together
alvent: haha, just luluk not me
yannie: luluk first, then i push u down
alvent: then i run, go back to hotel, hahahahaha
    yannie: u must try.. mad!
alvent: how much u pay me to try?
yannie: how much do u want?
    alvent: 1 rupiah, haha
    yannie: so cheap, no problem
alvent: but the problem is u have or not 1 rupiah?????
yannie: have, i ask indo players to bring me
alvent: ok, i want only 1 rupiah
yannie: hahaha, but then u must jump alone, not with luluk
    alvent: ok2, ok, bungee jumping

*** tarek, do you remember how many meters??? actually i'm not sure if it's 50 ms cuz i didn't try it!!! i know simon, vita and hendra ag tried it.. but not joko.. hahahaha chicken!!!
