That's not an excuse. He is currently the world number one player, we need him to look cool on TV to help promote the sport. He has got far more responsibilities than shopping for cheaper Armanis and D&Gs. :D :D :D

No choice. Not enough useful celebrity material in badminton around this region that can be splashed on TV often. :D

    The other hopefuls:

Bao Chun Lai - Just pretty face. Don't look pretty on court.

Taufik - Potentially good but not doing too well these days. Might not be very suitable for the icon-type due to the wrong publicity he tend to generate. But could work the same way as John McEnroe.

Lee Chong Wei - I don't think so. Sad to say, not good-looking enough and too shy.

Koo Kian Keat - The kind of face that makes you either love him or hate him. Works great on some kids/teenagers. But doesn't look approachable most of the time. Might get assaulted by some disarrayed maniacs who hate that "guai lan" face.

Chan Choong Ming - Potential. Decent looks.

Hafiz - Should work well for some market segments.

Zhang Ning - Good one. But shelf life running out.

Xie Xing Fang - She does not exist on her own. She's more like escorts, secretary or personal assistant.

Simon Santoso - Good Potential. But he got to get rid of Taufik.

China women's doubles players - Aunties or men with exception of zhang Jie Wen.

Cai Yun / Fu Hai Feng - Very useful with proper coaching (not badminton coaching). Need more exposure than the singles players.

    :D :D :D :D :D

lol, well, it is important to promote badminton to the youngs.. Koo Kien Keat might be the most superb choice

    Hafiz is also not bad...

oh yeah, it's kien keat anyway, not kian keat

Paiseh. Forgot the correct spelling. Hafiz is definitely very useful for the south-east asian market since he's tall and handsome and usually have a grin. :p In fact, he most likely smile/grin more than Lin Dan. Or maybe, most people smile/grin more than Lin Dan. :D

What about WCH and XXZ? They could have like commercials showing the rivals like the old Larry Bird vs Magic Johnson commercials (not saying I was around then... but I've seen them).

WCH is charismatic, his wife is beautiful, he could be a great advocate for physical fitness commercials.
XXZ is funny and seems like an overall good guy + huge heart when he plays.

But they are not very marketable in the coming years. Missed the chance already.

Yannie, **KZ** already given you plenty of hint. Only villain in movie has guai lan look. The opposite of innocent look. :D
