One more unexpected result or upset in this second consecutive week tournament in R1, this time it's Lee Cheuk Yiu eliminating the more fancied 4th seed Chou Tien Chen after a prolonged tough struggle in three sets, 23-21, 21-23, 21-18.

He said no . need to do his laundry and he's so tired need to sleep. And from cn forum today there's a rumor he's getting fever . cn player always doing the laundry by themself

Many ‘22 season previous MS world tour title winners have been knocked out in R1- LZJ, SYQ, LS, Toma, CTC, ASG, Chico, KN. The ones left with a chance to claim their 2nd title of the season are JC, Kodai, and KV. Or it will be VA again!!!

What a season it has been for MS category

Thanks, everything you wrote is correct. However, there is one more thing that should be changed by BWF. Due to the withdraw of Kento Momota and Anders Antonsen and the defeats of Anthony Ginting and Chou Tien Chen in the first round, there are now no more seeded players in the men's singles in round 16 in the lower half of the tournament. So an unseeded player will reach the final. I think it would be better to do the draw later (e.g. one or two days before the tournament). At least Kento and Anders could then have been replaced by other players who are high in the world rankings.

Yep. Rather than Ohori, more resources should be spent on cultivating Gunji Riko, a WCJ gold medallist (2019) in her own right.

    • Some more favoured MS players who supposed to going further here were ousted prematurely, only three seeded left in last sixteen, the undisputed world number one Axelsen, former world champion Loh KY and Indonesian hopeful Christie.
    • A contrast result of back to back top-tier tour for Shi YQ in his effort to improve world ranking position. Thammasin is good attacking player, quick movement and neat net play. The Chinese hotshot should implement more efficient game plan to score point rather than relying heavily to unleash hard smash, his fitness level indicates fatigue tendency or unwell condition that trigger to produce numerous errors.
    • Another setback for MAS star Lee ZJ who aiming to earn better outcome in Paris but Vito poses one of toughest foes for Lee to tackle, his patience style with noteworthy defense aspect has frustrated Lee to tune his game properly.
    • Big flop hits Ginting in Europe tour, lost narrowly to Verma in really balanced match where the Indonesia can't handle high tension at thrilling points, he survived to force rubber games when almost blew away a string of game point chances then dejavu in third game but he can't convert two match points. 4th seed Chou TC also failed to pass first round hurdle, leaving the unseeded players to capitalise opportunity to break into S750 final. Consistency is the most difficult part to maintain for most top players.
    • On the contrary, all WS favorites stay in the fray, safely through into second round, big highlight to follow Yamaguchi-Wang ZY rematch, a projected close contest.
    • In doubles category, newest CHN combination Feng/Huang surprise Thai high profile duo once again, interesting to wait whether this promising partnership would be permanent pair towards Paris 2024?! The Minions, reigning world Champions Aaron Chia/Soh WY and the Daddies mong prominent pairs who taste first round exit.

Lee Cheuk Yiu must have been working on fitness. He has a high energy style that can get him the points against top players but previously can't maintain the pace.

Back in July, he played Viktor in the Malaysian Open and was exhausted by the end of the match. Keeping up with CTC to the third set is quite an achievement.

Nah from your post you seems keep searching for his fault. Even bringing up ridiculous laundry. Lzj ctc kevingideon lost first round too no one said anything. It's funny to me you even went to syq thread to ask about laundry. People need move on and stop being petty. He paid for his mistake.

What is so ridiculous about doing laundry? What fault is this? It is just that professional sportspeople usually don't touch on these issues. They would say why and how they lost.

About SYQ and that laundry thingy, it was from his post-match interview after Denmark Open Final. Quote: "The 2018 All England champion admitted his confidence is at “90 per cent” following his win in Odense. Pressed on how he plans to celebrate, he said: “No party. I need to wash my clothes, take a shower, pack for Paris and get a good night’s sleep.”" Taken from: https://bwfworldtour.bwfbadminton.com/news-single/2022/10/24/denmark-open-i-was-close-to-tears/
So he was going to do a laundry after that final match and before going to Paris. It's not that he lose here on purpose just to do a laundry. I can't find his post-FO R1 match interview anywhere, but I believe he won't state his reasons like that either. Just want to clarify things here.

Thanks for the clarifications that it was after DO final and not yesterday's defeat. That's why I asked. But some fans are just too sensitive.

If LCY can cut down on his erratic shots, he could win more matches.
