Nope, most of the presenters were either wearing masks or back facing the camera. We couldn't even see LCW clearly.
I actually think Momota has a chance in this tournament if his victory against vitsdarn and nkl is not a fluke. This tournament may be his chance to prove himself since axelsen and lzj and lakysa Sen is not there. If he cannot do well here, he may seriously think of retiring
Next year Malaysia Open will Super 1000 , I see a lot of problem. Japan, South Korea, and Denmark deserve better for Super 1000
Saying the word ' Retire' is too harsh to any player. There are so many things will go on in their mind. I must say that similar words were thrown by Indian fans to Srikanth for his dismal performances for years. After 2017 where he won 6 super series titles , he did not win any title. He is still playing but his confidence is completely lost. But after hearing their thoughts in interview , I changed my mind about them. I still believe this Momota will change in future. But he has to take steps. He is too soft on his coach. In India, even girls like Sindhu and Saina used to change coaches once their performances were bad. Saina changed her coach from Gopichand to vimal kumar. I am just saying sometimes your attitude towards game will change once you change your coach. Just try it.
I think to qualify for Super 1000, the main criteria should include court condition. So many of these matches are ruined (in my opinion) by the 'good-side vs bad-side'. Why can't the organizer improve the flow of the air in the arena so that these bias sides are minimized. That is why normally badminton is played indoor, otherwise we could have beach badminton.
Actually what is so special about An Se Young. She looks so average to be honest. I know not related but suddenly this question pops in my mind.
CL? I dunno about grinding down. But her shots look very ordinary but suddenly players just cannot even handle ordinary shots by her. So many players look more impressive then her
You make a point. I really dunno why drift is such a problem now. Why players have to worry so much about the drift to the extent of even giving up the entire set. And really. This year, the competition is pretty badly organize. The score board is wrong, constant "blackout" when watching online even once whereby the umpire got it wrong. But then they held the world championship in that messed up place as well right?
CL=Chen Long... An is not particularly fast, powerful or skilled when you compare her to the likes of Carolina Marin, PV Sindhu or TaiTY. She has got a strong basic game with good defense, very good stamina/endurance, great shot quality with only few errors and the mindset of a fighter. Also has a decent height for a WS player, similar to ChenYF or Carolina Marin. This outgrinding style of hers isn't a particularly flashy way to play, like outpowering, outmaneuvering or outspeeding your opponent, but one that has worked for her and has taken her into her well deserved top 10 spot...
How many times Axelsen has withdrawn from tournaments this year? like 3x at least. Sometimes he said he is injured, sometimes he said he needs a rest. well smart move by him though its just funny like it sounds dejavu. I think his next tourney will be WC?
benefits of an independent player? or you would like to see them play a few points and then retire from the match? https://www.insidethegames.biz/articles/1114703/french-open-badminton-axelsen-kento
The intensity of the sport now requires more recuperation time between competitions. This stacked scheduling with back to back tourneys is obviously not fitting anymore, especially for top players who play almost everyday for two or three weeks as they systematically reach semis or finals. In football they rotate the team more and more as the sport is more demanding than ever and they do not play official matches everyday. More like twice a week top. I understand this scheduling is meant to optimize travel and organization fees for both participants, federations and organizers but it is not optimal for the sheer performances of the athletes and the sport. Right after, there is the Singapore and Taipei open on consecutive weeks or 6 weeks of competition over the course of 7 weeks. That is ridiculous. At this rate, only the WC and the Olympics will have a full draw with all top athletes (if they are not injured due to the stacked scheduling).
I think Axelsen have achieved everything and he sure will win a lot more to put exclamation marks into it. i guess what he lacks is fame. With fame, he ll have lots more sponsor (middle of his shirt?). So he acts funny when he is challenged - good to gain fame. I just dont think Olympic Champ, WR1 as Independent player will have something empty in the middle of his shirt. What i want to see is WR1 being famous in this sport. Other than Minions, i havent seen other WR1 has that much value. Axelsen should really be right up there. If yesterdays Final is pay per view, id prolly only pay for the MS Final. This is what the commercial value is all about like whats discussed Antonsen podcast with Gideon.
