Thomas Cup/Uber 2022 just ended: my humble takeaways: Despite losing to eventual winners.. Our men's team is in better shape than before, barely .. although it still looks like a Lee Chong Wei Thomas team all over again (where Only the MS will win any point in a quarter-final or semifinal setting) But we do have depth in the MD .. even though I wondered why our gsf+ izzudin duo froze against India.. they are the better team i think (judging their performances up to our Japan encounter). In the men's singles, herein lies our biggest problem no depth so far. Indonesia... Denmark .. Japan.. China .. and of course India all have super excellent players in their top 3 in this department.. we don't. If we don't rectify this... a Thomas cup final for Malaysia will not be in our lifetime Uber Cup ... no change same old same old
Actually, I would like to ask. Why do you expect GSF and izzudin to beat india. Remember India beat Ahsan and Kevin. How do you define better shape?
Correct me if I am wrong. But i do not think Sen is an attacking kind. And ASG is the kind that makes loads of mistakes. So in order to beat him, you must play a patient game in the first place.
The experience we are getting at the moment, or for the past 10 years, is losing, so much so that it is normal and ok to lose
congratulations to Malaysia Men's Team for grabbing Silver medal in SEA Games 2022... Malaysia Men's Team players are the C team...
we have 3 top doubles team coming into the Thomas instead of 2 ...its in the way they beat the Olympic gold medalist .. i thought they played excellent.. with tactics and strategy and not skills alone.. when facing the Indian team.. they did froze.. none of the brilliance they had with the Japanese's team. so i was disappointed.. i didn't expect them to win per se. i expected a better performance (and hence, hopefully win..) btw . didn't the Indians beat the Indonesians .. after ?
Most likely they froze when none of the tactic they're doing is working against the indians. Plus indians players are super highly motivated and very pump up on every single points they get, probably this causes both of them to be very nervous and unable to play on their usual tempo.
i think you are right.. also so far .. they have nver beaten this indian team in previous encounters... so they need to overcome this mostly psychological problem
Yeah, however I think the current development is quite interesting. LZJ has gone independent thus making BAM to step up in grooming another top single player under BAM wing. If this is true then we will have maybe 2 good MS for MAS.
It wasn't the players fault. It was the coach. Rexy Mainaky outsmarted himself by fielding a pair that had a 1-5 record against the Indians. Rexy refused to use Wooi Yik.
Then yew sin/ee yi should have been selected as MD 1 if he doesn’t want to play wooi yik. I believe GSF and izzudin would be able to win the 2nd doubles
I heard GohVS/TWK are reuniting again for the world championship. They youngsters are still not able to catch up in terms of ranking although they are no longer playing together ♀️
our young players.. seem to be phenomenally mediocre. looks like its just lee zii jia and pearly&thinaah for the coming years.. and again no replacement in sight Just look at the up & coming Thai (their 15 yr old girl just won the Denmark IC open), Indonesians, any other neighbor country... .and look at ours.
Is it because bam not giving lzj incentives after gold medal in commonwealth games? 2 weeks rest shd be sufficient to prepare for wc. Later cold or out early rounds. Any incentive in winning gold in cg?
hmmm already 22 yrs old and not much going for him.. maybe BAM should say, 'next' https://www.malaymail.com/news/spor...s-time-for-shuttler-tze-yong-to-step-up/13848
Justin Hoh seems to be the next star in the making. Only 18 years old and already won two senior titles, albeit lower-tier.
