MAS may have a good chance at the just concluded Asia Team Championship had she competed.

I wouldn't expect her to win any matches.

    Lack of fitness

Agree. Been watching some of the video she posted online. While still a good player, it will take her a few months if not another year to get back into form and shape. At the moment she is not even 50% of her peak.

agreed .. we are talking top world rankings here, nothing less just because that was her potential... she needs a year i think 1) to fully recover from her surgeries 2) fitness level

And to avoid injuries, an athlete really needs to carefully manage their training program - this can’t be rushed.

Best of luck for GJW during the Korea Open. Hopes she makes it to SF at least!

Even a quarter final appearance here in Korea will be a good first come back for her I think

She's done a good job by getting into the quarterfinals. Valuable ranking points.

Would be wonderful if she could go further.

She has a glaring weak point when the shuttle is behind her at the baseline where she could only make a vertical drop at the net which is easily killed by her opponents.

This is her main problem, speed court mobility. Very glaring when she's tired. I wonder if it's being addressed

I hope she could slowly build up her stamina and speed in the court then she can definitely challenge some of the big guns in WS.
Even though during her pre injury period her biggest weakness is her speed, that was compensated by her strong stamina where she's able to push most players to the distance. After stopping playing competitively for so long I'm sure she have a huge mountain to climb. Keep fighting strong GJW!

That was a good round of play by GJW in the Uber cup against Intanon. Much improvement even if she lost. I would say she's up to maybe 60% of what she is capable of. I hope she continues this trajectory of improvement!!

Here's a bit more detail on her path to where she is right now - not for the squeamish...
