Take a bow Viktor. Who would have thought VA would be the last man standing in a pure physical battle between these two. I’m sure this will be a much more satisfying victory for him than the Olympics

    Appreciate Axelsen meeting Momota.

Momota should be happy as he got to remember where he was. Surely he remembered his past glory. Surely.

He can only go up now hopefully.

He could win if not for the mistake in judgement. He should reflect on that now.

Once Momota gets his footwork back, It's going to be this game + his attack.

VA 99 percent got killed today, how would he escape Momota's footwork that will increase Momota's attack hundredfold?

When Momota smashes first in a rally, then that seems to favour Viktor.

Good match. Some of that defence was unbelievable

Viktor did very well to win today but Momota so far is only getting better and better with every match at a stupid rate. I can't wait to see another match between them again.

His judgement is letting him down. I wonder why though. Maybe just match fitness or just a lack of discipline on these decisions,

Viktor is so much more fit now than before. He used to get tired out in the 3rd set (ie. Dubai SS finals against Tian Houwei). Perhaps he changed his style of play to conserve his fitness more. It was actually Momota that look tired in the 3rd set, something that has not happened in their past encounters that went to 3 sets. Congratz to Viktor as it has been 7 years since Viktor last beat Momota. The record was 14-1 for Momota heading into this match. Now it's 14-2 and I think there is more weight to argue that Momota wouldn't have stopped Viktor in the Olympics (while Momota played poorly at the Olympics, Viktor has always had a mental block against Momota).

For Momota, this has been the best he has played internationally since his car accident. So that's good new for him. If Momota can continue to play like this in the next several tournaments, I don't think he is really suffering any major long term issues from the car accident or from catching covid.

How many SS has Axelsen won? 10? While Momota has 15 right?

so does the Olympic Gold make up for that difference? Whom do you think has achieved more in their career? I still think Momota , and also the H2H 14-2 as a factor.

You are trying to be cheeky. I am trying to be serious. KM has grown a lot the past few weeks. Sure he lost some matches in the team events but starting from his match against Christie, he started looking like the old KM. Fast pace and almost no errors.
