    Hi guys ,

If you were umpire, what would you do?! is that okay if a player is continuing playing in spite of apparent injury?

Please mention laws or other procedures in the ITTO or other docs ( if possible )

    Thanks

Players are responsible for themselves. You can hardly force a player to concede the match if they don't want to. Sameer notched a win despite getting injured vs Antonsen. Should he have been disqualified when it became apparent that he was injured? That's a very fuzzy line. How do you classify an injury? What about Chen Longs blister at the Olympics. It clearly must have caused a lot of pain, and playing round after round undoubtedly made it worse. Should he have been disqualified?

Each match is important for ranking, prize money, and just for personal reasons. If players want to play on, they can.

As for Popov, that was just cramps. He would have been fine the day after. He just performed probably the feat of his lifetime so far by taking a game off Axelsen. Even if it was hopeless when he got cramps, he didn't want to retire, he wanted to play out the match, and many players would feel the same.

If an injury is so debilitating that playing on is hopeless and playing will aggravate the injury, most if not all players would probably retire. Cramps are painful and debilitating, but there is little danger in 'playing' on.

Players always have the right choose to continue the match or stop it and lose the match.
If I'm the umpire I can only ask if he/she is fit to continue, to stay or to leave is their decision.
In the incident with SYQ and Momota DO 2021 match, SYQ has the right to stop at 5-20, but he has to bear the unfavorable opinion from badminton fans.
