    VA shots were very steep.

CL as usual a very good sportsman.

He proved that he is such a gentleman when he didn't review the final point unlike the other Chinese counterparts.

Everyone has a plan 'till they meet Lee/Wang.

Respect to Chen Long as well, never would've thought beforehand that he'd make it to the final so long after his last big performance. Lovely reaction as well, it's nice to see that attitude between these two, a lot of respect I'd say. The shirt swap was a nice touch.

CL wanted the Silver medal badly. He is prob the only one that has the full collection of Olympic medal. Well done! Congrats to VA, still short of the silver one.

Congrats Viktor! Very deserving victor, and is a great ambassador for our sport. I am still amazed at how well he can speak Chinese. As someone learning Japanese for a while, it's really not easy and takes a lot of commitment, on top of his badminton responsibilities!

    Enjoy this moment champ.

    Amazing!!!!
    So happy for Axelsen!
He has overcome his mental block as can be seen from this tournament

Also hope that this can be a boost for Danish badminton

To be fair though, it was a mile in, I couldn't believe he'd let it drop when I watched the rally. Li/Liu had at least a smidgen of hope it might've been out, and in a situation like that....many of us would probably hope against all odds as well and cling to that last straw :D

    Congrats Axelsen !!!!!

I love the irony of fate. The guy who could never beat Momota, got the Olympic Gold medal on Momota's home soil.
    Yeaaah baby !!!

The interaction between VA and CL after the match finished is way up there as one of the most wholesome ever. God I loved that.

    First interval :

This is the final game, let's go out good and with a bang, let's play well!
    CL: Ok yes

Before start of second set: didn't hear

    Second interval:
CL: he keeps attacking me (not comfy)
Coach: build a rhythm and defense, make a rally out, then start from there. make every rally long with more exchanges

Basically that. There is more but I can't recall and it's muffled time to time.

VA's silver will be in 2024.
Same sequence as CL, bronze, gold, silver.

Anybody else here who has been sitting at home, shouting Chen Long jiayou like an idiot and waving a Flame N55 in the air at every point CL made?

What a match it was. CL not bad, tried everything he could on this day, but VA was as much in the zone as one can!
Such a display. No one could beat this VA on this day. He was so confident from the beginning.
So happy for him, great to see so many emotions :)

    Very deserved winner imo.

Damn badminton event is already over :(
But it was great. Finally we could watch Badminton of the highest quality again.

Really looking forward to the rest of the year.

VA playing above himself at the right time and the right place, both his attack and defence are just superb, how to beat that? And Chen Long's renowned defensive ability not up to it today. VA simply unstoppable here.

Makes me wonder if Momota at his best can stop this VA, maybe not. I think the next time they meet, we'll see a different result with VA ending his nemesis effect.

Well, this is The Olympics, when things are back to normal in the international circuit, hopefully by next year, it's hard to say. Life is unpredictable and uncertain.

Current Momota wouldn't even beat current Chen Long. VA would have killed him had they met in SF.

And I am a huge KM fan.
