    Then too bad,

it will just bring many steps backwards for badminton.

we are already missing CHN, KOR and now INA.

how many would want to invest in badminton like Thai GV.

As a Brit, I find all the posts about the UK doing this to somehow gain an advantage for the England team or white people laughable. Badminton is such a small sport in the UK and the average person is completely unaware this tournament is happening, let alone being able to name a badminton player. Sadly, it's thought of as a garden sport for most people.

I'm not defending the decision at all but it's an issue of incompetency rather than anything else. The UK's response to covid in general over the past year has been terrible.

In your wildest dreams, maybe. The dude has played 5 All Englands and has never made it past the first round. Easy draw for Thomas Rouxel.:)

I agree that many people are overly suspicious. The culprit is UK government rules that some of them does not make sense and ineffective

Anyway, the tournament has made some fans angry, the organiser should have thought earlier and do something to avoid this problem

The evidence is still not conclusive as to whether being vaccinated means you cannot have the virus still and transmit to others. There isn’t a peer reviewed study I believe on this matter yet.

It makes sense that bwf has no say in government verdicts but it doesnt explain why the turkish player is still allowed to play

Yes possibly, but until you peer review a study, you cannot conclude to any certainty that something is effective. Vaccinated people in the UK still currently have to stay home, respect social distancing, wear masks etc. Until there is a high percentage uptake, rules won’t change.

I believe BWF has been caught blindsided by this INA withdrawal announcement by NHS

From outside, it looked kind of them to allow the 7 to compete (whoever they are) almost no matter what the result is, they did everything they can . However, the announcement came and here are exactly where the flaws are. Like where are the sources of their testing, etc. probably they havent arranged anything with NHS.

basically it wont be aproblem if nobody had a problem. In the end , everyone loses.

Title winner who will have dreams of becoming AE champion but it will be this issues that is talked months or years to come. organizers oh well.

Again, BWF is just following England's health authorities. If it's up to BWF, the Indonesians will play. Not sure what happened with Nes Yigit. Seems like maybe England health authorities didn't catch her...yet.

This is not malicious injustice, just incompetence.

    All,

This is a really unfortunate situation. As badminton fans, we already are deprived of some really excellent badminton due to non-participation of some players/countries, and now INA team has be denied to play. I am sure fans, INA fans or not, are not happy about it.

It seems that there has been less than desirable transparency from the BWF, and such can lead to misunderstanding. LD rule's explanation seems most plausible as to what actually happened. It is totally understandable that fans still won't be happy. And we can see there has been some pretty strong reaction, some a bit out of place too and a couple has been removed or banned.

I hope BWF comes out and clear the confusion and clarify what happened. Meanwhile, this thread can keep continue, but before you post, make sure you post with logic and civility. Don't let your emotion take over.
